Some were curious about my recent find in another thread.I didn't want to any further so here's the whole story & pics. Its a long one,so be patient. **************************************************************************************************** Back in November my neighbor south separated from the wife,she moved out & their 4yr old daughter lives with her.Dont think they're getting back together last I heard.He's selling the house,had been moving his stuff out starting in early January.Finally house is empty now. Friday night 1/16 when he was cleaning up the last of the stuff in garage & basement told me I could have all the cans/bottles piled up over the past year or so. Cashed them in Sat afternoon - $37 worth!! Plus he had a late 60's (near as I can tell so far) very heavy Craftsman (made by Rockwell Delta) 10" Contractor's Table Saw with 1980's massive Biesemeyer 53" T Square Fence/Outfeed Table set up.Motor needs new cord (part including the plug was cut off years ago),the entire saw & especially the cast iron table needs a good cleaning.There is no guard or splitter.All the controls work properly.Had a mid-late 90's high dollar Systi Matic carbide tipped 50 tooth combination blade on it,with minor surface rust,all teeth are sharp & undamaged. Has Baldor Industrial 2HP 1PH 3450RPM motor that purrs like a kitten. His brother was working for a local contractor & was given the saw by his employer 3-4 years ago & parked it in garage "temporarily for a few days". He never removed it & there it sat on the partly dirt/concrete floor. I don't need another saw & sure don't have room for it,but am sure I can get $100-150 easily for it as is.In my backyard driveway now covered with a tarp.Way too heavy/awkward for me to move by myself,so I phoned my 23 yr old weightlifter nephew Sat afternoon,he came over & in less than 5 minutes we carried it over here.Has to weigh 300 pounds,the saw alone 225 at least. I originally was gonna sell it,after replacing the cord to the switch,since I don't have room for it in the shop right now.But after giving it a good cleaning & thinking it over for a few days I changed my mind. Still don't have room for it indoors (bear with me) but I have it well protected with a section of a very heavy duty tarp that once covered a motor home.Eventually before summer gets here I'll probably build a box from 1/2" treated plywood with reinforced 2 x 2 internal corners to protect it better from the elements.Bought a pair of the heaviest duty Master padlocks Lowe's had for $20,its secured with an ancient 20 ft log chain with 1/2" links to the deadman which holds up telephone pole in backyard.No average bolt cutters will snap that chain. Its gonna take 2 strong guys with a pickup & ideally a low trailer to cart that beast off.In the meantime my other neighbor would hear the commotion & no doubt have his lazer sight trained on them pretty quickly..... I did some checking,that exact same model number Baldor motor new sells for $400+,the list price is around $800 After a good cleaning/new 12ft cable to the metal switch box I figure the whole system is worth $300 easily as it sits right now,maybe a bit more.The used but very good motor $150 of that.Sure I can always use the extra cash,but this kind of a deal has never happened to me before.A new comparable Delta,Jet or Powermatic Contractor's Saw w/50" Biesemeyer (they don't make it at 52 or 53 inches anymore that I noticed) with 1.5 or 1.75HP motor will run you $1100 to 1600,no one has a 2HP anymore either. I must say....it looks pretty good all cleaned up with a good coat of mineral oil/carnauba/paraffin wax rubbed into that heavy cast iron table top. Also has a good all metal miter gauge & a thick aluminum dado insert,same as the regular one.
Thistle, Nice find. Older table saws never die. they just get better. You are correct the fence might we worth more than the saw. Biesemeyer fence are quality. It is not a portable as one might like. So, you will need to find a place to park it.
Need a respectable place to keep it. Well out of moisture. Covering alone won't be enough. If you have no place for it, maybe try to part with it. Have a buddy that could use a good deal? Maybe a buddy that has some dry storage room that he will share with you. Darngood find there. Tough saw that will serve a woodworker many good years. Power and accuracy with quality.

Wow what a score I have never seen a contractor saw with a 2hp. So let me get this straight you only spent the energy to haul it home? I have an old craftsman contractors saw that I need to give away or something, I could definitely use the room. I didn't need it but I hauled it home after my brother in law passed away. Nothing special about it and the fence is junk. I assume you already have a a good fence so you don't need that one right?
Nephew & I carried out of neighbor's garage barely 40 feet over to my driveway.Put a new 12 foot cable to the switch box,since old one was cut off years ago.My 1997 DeWalt jobsite saw has that rack & pinion fence,its just accurate as a Biesemeyer,but the saw is tiny by comparison.
Hey if you don't have room for it, chop it off, make the fence shorter like 30 inches of something. I have thought about doing that with my 52 inch fence because I built a panel saw, I don't need 52 inches anymore. It's just kind of hard to bring myself to whack it off I could use the space though
Great saw! About 3 years ago I reluctantly parted with my family-handed down Craftsman 100 table saw. It sported a 3 hp single phase motor, stock fence, but was still the same saw when my great grandfather bought it at the end of his life in the 60's. That saw was involved in the construction of at least 100 homes and countless remodeling jobs by way of my grandfather and dad. I may have the option to re-buy it, as I sold it to a close buddy. Like thistle, I have a DeWalt jobsite saw, love it, but way too tiny of a top for the bigger jobs! Hope you can put it to good use, thistle. Eric VW
