A couple freinds and family think im obsessive. I think its just normal but I clean my saw after each day of use. I dont do a deep clean each time.

I take a few mins to inspect amd tighten anything if needed. Touch up the chains if needed Just basic maintainence I think. I get jabbed for buying high octane fuel and adding Stabil

I just take a little pride in using my equip and maintaining it. I do admit I like cleaning and maintaining my stuff it gives me satisfaction knowing I am starting the day with a saw/splitter/tractor thats ready to go and get dirty again.

No screwing around trying to figure out why it wont run or start in the woods. Just fire it up and roll with it.

It does give satisfaction to see the ones who dont working on theirs while saw chips are flying with mine

Maybe I am ocd hell I dont know but if I am I enjoy it

I have another friend he is like me. We both do the same. We even change the oil in the splitters after 8 hrs use. It only costs about $3.50 to change the oil. Just the autozone brand. If i was waiting longer on oil changes I would use premium oil. Same with him

But our stuff runs when others does not and we dont loan equip except to each other

I like to do that too sometimes. The Stabil is a must. Those "jabbers" must like pulling the cords more than makin' chips fly... ;)

Let them yap ! Having your stuff clean, sharp, and ready to go is the normal around my house. My wife thought I was nuts, taking hours to clean and wipe down just to start them again the next day. I told her that having them ready to go was important and that one day she would understand. She said that I had OCD, that I was nuts, and that even her mother thought I had problems.

Hurricane Sandy hit, the next morning you could count 20-30 downed trees in any direction you looked .................... she understood that morning !

You pay good money for your stuff and take pride in taking care of it. I see nothing wrong with that.

I agree. I cant go and buy a new saw or splitter every year. I know some who run it till it stops then replace. I never understood that mentality

I clean mine with shop air and look over it for damage or loose stuff. I don't take a screwdrive or hex driver to every bolt, but I at least do a visual.

It's not OCD if you find a problem and give yourself the opportunity to fix it before the next time cutting. The only thing worse than having a saw that won't run, is lugging it out into the field and finding it has a problem from the last time you used it. This time of year, daylight and favorable weather are in short supply so disruptions are a major pain.

Woodrat - More power to you! I do the same. Last winter we had a massive, like 25+" dbh white oak with very full crown fall across the lane to my house and 2 neighbors'. All three of us got out our chainsaws. Only mine started. I didn't pay much attention, but, my wife noticed and commented on it. She totally respects my obsessions.

Same here, I always clean and sharped chain, remove clutch side cover and blow everything out, check bolt tightness, refuel gas and bar oil. I always use 91 pure gas and Husqvarna oil. I run mine at 40/1 and just a tad fat. I always use stabil. When I pick up one of my saws, I don't have to get it ready.

Yep - you are in good company. I clean my saws after each time I cut. Clean bar groove, oiler holes, blow out clutch cover, pto side, and recoil, clean air filter, blow out air box, etc. etc. Any left over gas goes back in the can and saws are run dry. Good money spent on good equipment - makes sense to keep it in the best condition. I'm sure if I didn't like doing it, I'd probably not do it as much - but it's fun work for me. Cheers!

I would be worried only if you were in the "run her hard and put away wet" crowd...idk why someone would NOT want to take care of their saws.

I know a few people who can take a new tool or piece of equip and turn it into a paper weight with in a few months time.

That's sad if they don't have a clue how to run it they shouldn't own it .imo

You are not alone.. I'm not against not cleaning them. But I prefer to. Just a quick brush of air and a little wipe from a rag goes a long way.

    Welcome to FHC three feathers!

I do a quick dust off after every use. When I change a chain I do a full deep cleaning including greasing of the clutch bearing.
