I'm absolutely amazed at how good this three year seasoned wood is burning and how clean it really is. Believe it or not, I'm getting 7 to 8 hour burns out of four medium sized splits of Norway maple at the moment. I've never burned an overnight fire with Norway and I was really worried it wouldn't hold all night. But it's doing it with little effort and very little smoke! And the house stays in the mid 70's - low 80's even when the mercury drops below zero!
I haven't had to clean the glass on either stove since Christmas......and I keep the stoves set on LOW all the time. Getting secondary burns within minutes of a reload because the wood is absolutely PRIMO. And I credit this to both the 3 Year Plan as well as having the top covered on my stacks. It's amazing.
43 cord is WAY more than a 3 yr plan. If we put in a stove this Fall, I may be hitting you up for a small purchase(?) to get get me through my first winter.
I'm a good ways from you Mike, it'd be easier for you to check out that place in Fort Loudon off of the PA turnpike that BrianK bought from before.......they sell kiln-dried wood and it's pretty reasonable from what I remember.
43 cord...bragger....im workin on the 3 year plan...its alot of work for 1 guy...but im slowly gittn there
Yes it was taxing to get to 3 years but I kept the pedal to the metal and I'm at (get ready for it) 5 years ahead!!! So when (if ever) the tree work lightens up, I can sit back and relax knowing I am ahead way further than need be.
Wow that is amazing. My plan is to jump start to 10 cord this year. It will be a couple years before I am burning properly seasoned wood, but you have to start somewhere. One question, as what point of being ahead do you start to worry about split seasoned wood rotting?
I screwed up Scotty , I thought the 3 was actually a 8 so that's where I'm at and enjoy burning well seasoned dry wood. Why are you burning Norway? That's supposed to be for tapping !
It really is wonderful to burn 3 or 4 year old wood. I have been on the roof 3 times this winter, carry the brush and the rods up....turn around and come back down...not needed.
the Norway I burn is all from residential removals. We did a huge one a while back and that's what I'm burning at the moment. Burns alot like sugar maple. And yes, unfortunately (for the trees that is) I had to remove several of them the past year and a half.
I won't be burning 3 year old wood until next winter. This winter it's been c/s/s 2 years, a little bit has been there for 3. Next winter all 3 year old oak, top-covered, stacked on pallets. Can't wait.
Congrats on being that far ahead. You have definitely got your act together to have such a stash worked up. Good for you! Now enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Thanks! It took a while, and my wife and neighbors all thought I was nuts! But my wife, after seeing how well this stuff burns, is finally on board with my hoard!! Lol
Good to know about the Norway Maple....................I've got about 1.5 cord I CSSed last Winter for next Winter. It'll just be 2 years, but I'm working on it.
