There certainly is a diminishing rate of loss. The piece of maple that I dried by the heat of my fire gave off 2/3 of the water in the first 10 days. 1/5 of the loss happened the first day. It then took another thirty days to get rid of the last third. After 50 days it is still losing weight but only about 5 grams per day which amounts to a miniscule 3/1000 of the loss. When you are getting the last few percentage points of moisture content out it goes very slow.
But oh the benefitsI'm currently on a 18 month to 2 year plan with the lessers and a 3+ plan with the good stuff. The good stuff that I can split 8x8s out of gets 4+. I agree with whoever mentioned diminishing returns but would argue that it is worth it for the stuff you rely on when its cold and blowing.
