I hooked my up my old desktop to back it up on an external drive.

I had a lot of trouble and decided to restore it back to last fall when I unhooked it.

I hit system restore instead. It ran a second or two after I realized my mistake and unplugged it.

Anyway to stop the process when I plug it back in? Are my pictures forever gone?

    Hp desktop, Win7.

this one if for myself :heidi:

It might be in your best interest to call me on the telephone machine.

Just a little hint. Restore will not change any picture files.

Please buy a external back-up drive for your precious pics.
I have two. The second one is kept in another building.
I had a computer stolen and losing pics will never happen to me again barring a major catastrophe.
I don't trust the "cloud" either.
Even if you never back-up anything else to it ( and you should) at least make redundant copies of your pics.

Pics, taxes, websites, word documents, artwork. This is the stuff I have backed up.

I don't really trust Time Machine or auto update software much either.

The only art work I have looks like the stick figures on the back of soccer mom vans.

I've got the masters for the shirts and website on my laptop. I think they might be important.

I am fortunate that I have a full backup from spring 2014, but I obviously did not get another back up done in a timely manner. Shame on me. And for those listening, billb3 gave good advice!

Yes sir that's the way to do it.
I have a network drive with two drives in it, everything I want get saved right there first, to drive number 1, Dive number 1 automatically gets backed up to drive number 2.
wildwest I hope you did not lose your files, good luck with it anyway:)
