just got off the phone with a guy who was having an issue with a dirty burn up in the northeast. the fellow was literally buried up there with several ft of accumulated snow. for last few days his stove had suddenly started buring really dirty.:hair:

we checked his stove , seems he had done a good job staying on top of cleaning checked settings all ok there , discussing the situation the customer said "oh chit" set the phone down came back a few minutes later said he found the issue. his OAK was literally burined in the snow outside.:emb::doh:

food for thought for my friends up there in the heavy snow areas.

    yall stay warm up there!:coldfire:

Great reminder Mike. We've had quite a bit of blowing/drifting snow.

Good reminder, just cleared mine out this afternoon. Keep the vents clear too, there was a story about a man who had a CO emergency a couple days ago

I feel so fortunate I found this site and so many were so generous helping me with my install. I initially wanted the stove on a different corner of the house, never thought twice about it getting drifted over. I think Lousyweather was the common sense in locating the stove w OAK away from the drifting side of the house. Great members and great reminder!

We had a business partner at work that had some serious smoke damage because the intake/exhaust to their heating system was blocked by snow.

During the blizzard here recently, the snow blew onto the OAK screen and "iced" it over. Since I was snowed in I removed the OAK tube from the inside, reversed my ash vacuum and blew through the tube to clean the screen. So one can have a blocked screen even if snow doesn't pile up high enough to cover it.

I've had these issues before as well, especially when the snow if heavy and wet and the wind is blowing. I've thought of doing what you did but found it easier to melt the blockage with a propane torch. (My backup igniter)

I vent mine through the chimney, if the snow gets that high, pellet stove issues will be the least of my problems!!!
