I went through a separation with the wife last year and I had to sell my beloved 036 in order to by groceries! Things are better now, we're back together, and the future is looking bright! Now I need to replace my saw. It doesn't have to be a Stihl (even though we all know nothing else runs or cuts as well as an orange and white) I am just looking for something in the 50-60cc range that is in good mechanical shape that will hopefully last me several more years. Thank you all so much, and I am looking forward to hanging out here and picking all your collective brains! Don
A few more questions will help with suggestions. What's your budget and how often do you use or how many cord cut per year?
I had no idea Stihl made a saw called a "550xp" * actually I'd be very interested as long as I can squeeze it into my budget.
Thanks XXL... I should have included that from the get go. I am only a "casual" user I guess... I may buck enough rounds to equal 3-4 cords a year, and don't plan any monster trees. Probably no reason to dress her in anything larger than an 18 inch bar, but you never know. That said, I actually love to split wood by hand for a stress reliever and for exercise, so ya never know how much I'll be using it, but there's no way I'll really push it . Thanks again! Don
OH... budget...... I don't want to screw anyone out of their property, but I also have a wife and kids to feed I would like to get the most saw that I can in the $300 range ... if it's really worth it I could probably ask the wife to give me an advance on my allowance. Maybe it's time I see what all the Husky fuss is about !
I picked up a very lightly used MS260 Pro last fall for under $300 here in Canada so there are some good deals on quality used 50-60cc around. I found this one on a Canadian site similar to craigs list. Have you checked the classifieds here yet? Don't know much about Husky's but someone is selling a 51 for $200.
I am planning to sell my MS361 in a few months ( if you wanted to wait) to pay for the porting job on my MS362. Am going to ask $300 + shipping for it PHO, but dont plan on getting rid of it quite yet as 362 is not going down south till Aug
I'd ask him in a PM what he means? If he is willing to send you a 029/290 for the cost of shipping? I'd take that saw in a heartbeat
