I also have one and it does smoke when the draft door opens but hardly no smoke when burning and it also smokes when it is snuffed out. I hope the folks around me don't care. When I did heat with fuel it cost about 2000 bucks this year I've got 400 into it.
I think too much smoke by poorly managed users of stoves and OWBs is here to stay. It's got to be a constant process of education to try to get smoke levels down by the offenders so that the EPA and it's individual state brethren don't shut all of us down. Since wood burners are almost universally a bunch of independent SOBs ( ) getting them to adhere to some type of standard for burning correctly will always be a big challenge. My 2 cents worth...now where is that freshly cut stack of cottonwood of mine?
