Someone with photoshop skills better than I needs to put this on top of a Franklin Hybrid and start a rumor:

I believe that is the new Woodstock FluxCap stove. Slip a small split in the front end receptor (black round thing) and it burns for 2 years!

Why wouldn't they come out with "beta testing" prior to the burning season, rather than 2/3rds the way thru it???

Here's Tom's explanation of that from his email last night (Tom talked about this in their letter to customers in December):

We are about 3 months behind where we expected to be because of our supplier
problems this summer (our foundry went bankrupt). We had to move 26 years
worth of foundry patterns to another European foundry. But we are back on
track enough now to start paying serious attention to R&D projects.

It was a little unsettling not to be able to get castings for over six
months Good thing we had lots of inventory. And long live steel!

Plus they received far more orders for the new Ideal Steel stoves than they had anticipated, so they've been swamped.

Yes, it sounds strange to actually say it but they are victims of their own success. :) Really, they introduced a new product at a new price point and have been overwhelmed with the response. Which of course is great- as long as they can handle the strain while they get things in order. They seem to be doing so and it is really great to hear they are back to the R&D part of things.

BrianK , I didn't realize the new stove would be available w/o the "wings".
Looks a bit more like an IS.
I'm intrigued, especially if they do a thermostat of some type similar to a BK.
    Time to bookmark their site.

Different, more traditional shape though than the IS, not as much of a "big cube"?

I do like the lines of the "plain, basic" stove drawing:

Take a look at this video. Even on highest air settings, when I was pushing the Beta IS unit to its upper limits, I never had the volume or speed of secondary flames seen in this clip of the Franklin Hybrid. Hmmm...

There looks to be a log suspended across the stove? Or is that just an optical allusion..

Watch it full screen. The logs are sitting on a glowing coal bed. Air seems to be flowing up and over the logs from the bottom rear of the firebox as well as coming out from under the coal bed itself (different or forced secondary air system?) Conjecture on my part, but the velocity of the secondary flames really has me curious what's going on here.

I get flames moving at high velocity sometimes, that doesn't look out of the ordinary to me... Just a good hardy load going...

    Agree.

This was a max air burn with locust last year in the Beta stove. I guess its a comparable velocity, pattern and amount of secondary flame after all:

From what I was shown there almost 4 weeks ago, this is not a tweaked PH or IS air system, but rather something newer/better. I did not see one burning - just the partially fabricated shells.

I too am very interested in this stove to replace my last legs VC Resolute in the family room, but need some dimensions. Will be a perfect match to my needs if a lower cost hybrid in a medium sized stove.

I hope to be a beta tester.

Yeah, the Ideal Steel has a really weak primary air supply, which is why so many of us have mentioned it. It is also the root of the coals burning problem- betcha' they are taking care of this with the next stove. And maybe, just maybe, a retrofit of the I.S. could be somewhere in the future to spiff that model up too....?

I think I'd want the box, no wings; With a cool paint job
