I am betting on the residual left behind as well. The pipe is clean and you have only been burning for a couple weeks?

The High temp snap disc being located on the firebox is why the stove didn't shut down. The firebox was at a normal temp and burn. It's a good idea to test them, but yours is probably operating fine.

You probably burned off the rest of the nasties that you missed. I'm glad you were home and nothing was damaged.

How many total bags have you ran through it already? It can't be many.

Yeah, that wasn't pipe or stove related. That was the little creo that you left behind and burning out of the combustion blower housing.

8-10 bags in a stove that doesn't burn that well wouldn't cause much of an issue.

My Pellet furnace it's first year would get a creepy crawly burn in the firebox. The soot would start to "smolder" and burn like a coal. It was weird watching it. But I has since upgraded many parts and it now burns 1,000% better.

    That 'before' photo is scary.

I'm with most of the guys in thinking there was some creosote that lit up when you had the stove on #4. And you are correct that you should run the stove on a higher setting if it's been run on #2 or lower for sometime. I run my St Croix on 4 or 5 every morning for 20 minutes. Right now it's zipping along on #3 with outside temps near 0F. It's been running steady since I refilled my pellet supply two days ago.

    Stay warm.

interesting thing is the fan itself has a thermal impedance protector built into the motor , should have kicked the blower off if temp in the fan motor exceeds 475F guess the cooling fan (or convection air being drawn through the back of the stove) kept the blower motor below that threshold

It probably protects it from internal electrical problems. It would had to be a fire on the motor to trip it, I could be off base.

naah youre pretty well right on Ivanhoe, BUT if it had enough heat in there to burn off that paint i suspect there was some combustion going on in there and i'd expect a lot more heat to transmit up the motor shaft. then again , if the blower DID overheat and kick off while there was burning in that chamber you would really see it get hot
