Got up at 8am, did the biweekly cleaning. Well since I am slightly OCD, I cleaned every spec of ash lol. Learned the pot removal and dissasmbled it into 6 pieces. Baffle plates were a nice white ashy color, burn tubes were black ash color. That ash vac is GREAT! No dust anywhere. I cleaned more fines and dust around the pot than ash lol. Not complaining cause I get great heat.

Ohhh, I also cleaned the glass with glass stove top cleaner I had. I read that on here somewhere. Works wonders, I could eat off that glass now.
    Thanks guys for awesome advice!

    Glad it's working well..

End of the year, we will advise on how to clean behind the back plate, above the heat exchang tubes, etc.

Happy to hear you like it!

Thanks! Yes I will need all info I can get. So in the meantime during the season, is there a deeper cleaning needed than what I did? Like the blower or anything?

Nope.. The vent every ton if you wanted. But with 4" and my burning habits and technique, I go 2 ton (or whatever my full season is )

How do you access the hinge screws to the hopper lid? The hinge seems to be very loose on the exhaust side

It's part of the top panel assembly. You can remove the top portion of the rear panel, you should have access to the hinge. You might have to remove the lower portion of the rear panel to remove the top portion of the rear panel.

The top panel has the duct installed, the lower rear panel has the cold air return blocking the screws.

Looking into my manual, looks like you might have to loosen the top panel at the rear and hopefully you can pry up enough to get access to the hinge.

Can you get something through the rear slots like a offset screwdriver?

Gonna try to remove all the screws on top and see if it budges. Then I'll have to check other options. I have a few bags left of GTP then I'll clean before going back to FSU. When it's shutdown I'll try.

I am wondering why loctite or locknuts were not used....I mean the lid is opened the most.

You might have to remove the lid to facilitate the top panel to lift more in the corner you want to get at. Or get the vendor to do it for you? If you have good access to it and able to remove the screw, loctite it.

Didn't try yet lol, :ups::ups:yesterday got the vent add ons and a cap thanks to Dex!

This morning I was on my way out, added pellets, checked the ash pan, cleaned the heat exchange tubes and . Both upper plates fell down.

I had to shut down, find something to grab them with. Let them cool and reinstall. Then restart! Uhhhh not what I wanted to happen at 6am out the door. I guess I was either to rough or I pushed back the rod to far and the plates fell down.

I did notice when installing, the cleaning rod must be pulled slightly forward to insert the metal cover. Then the rod has to be pushed in to finishing installing upper cover.

If the plates are not "seated" in the slots at the front of the stove (the slots sit on screw heads). Then they will fall. As long as they are seated? You should be able to pull the cleaning rod as hard you'd like.

Did you install the vent parts? If so, any difference in burn (higher EVL)?

Huh, I have to check that out. I am burning my last bag of GTP. Went through 40 bags in 1 month with these temps in the -
I am cleaning the furnace tomorro so I can switch back to FSU since I have 4 tons left lol. I will check the slots at the front, it's hard to see. I though they just sat on a flat surface and the back had a groove. Now I know lol

Ohh I didn't do the vent yet, too cold to play outside. What do you suspect the difference will be, burn wise?

There is 4 small heads on the front of the firebox. Next time you pull the plates, you will see the notches cut out in the plates.

You put the back over the back ledge, then you must pull the plate forward to get the plate to lock onto the 2 screws/studs that are on each side.

Hope this helps. I had that happen my first year as well. Then I physically looked inside and seen what needed done

Hahaha thanks DEX! I had the plates upside down:doh:

I must have put them in that way the last 2 times I vacuumed. I got my head in the fire box and turned up. Saw the Studs and said huh. Then saw the grooves in the plates and realized it. I was laughing at myself.
No more being late for work in the AM if I give the burn tubes a scrape lol

Here are pics of my pot assembly, is it the same as your modded one? image.jpg
