When I pulled out of the driveway about 1:15 today, just a little throttle got the rear of the Jeep going the wrong way. Same thing when I got to the end of the road at M-33, so I stuck it in 4wheel.
Won't help a ton on ice, but I felt better.
I still haven't filled up any buckets with sand like you suggested.:(

Remember that sand next July. Then you can skim the top and you don't get moisture so the sand is easy to handle after the weather turns cold. We put the bucket of sand in the car before we headed to the DC affair. It will stay there until next April.

Bag of kitty liter a must if no sand.
Has bailed me out several times, 4x4 but no studded tires. Wife car, studded tires.
4x4 helps, not much on glare ice, but some.

We didn't get squat here, north of us got 2-3". No real ice, just a few slick spots. Ground is nice & solid though.

We had a chit load of rain & sleet last night and not much snow today, they say about half an inch per hour starting tonight.

    Pretty much , yea.
Rare for -30 here, but when it is, just hunker down by the stove.

Saw a week of -30 about 15 years ago. -10 to -15 for a week or 2 in late Jan is the norm.

Now forecast is for -4°f Thursday night

Does that put you in that 5a zone along the coast Dave? The climate zone map of Alaska is pretty wild....you get that little lip around the Southern edge that is comparable to my house but gets pretty ugly pretty quick as you go inland. We should probably all include our climate zone in our signature to give some context to how much wood it takes to keep a building warm.

In the teens here. Trying to convince myself to jump on the splitter but it might wait for a thaw.
