Hearthstone Heritage vs. WS Progress Hybrid.

Thoughts? Good, bad, ugly. WS PH looks perfect for us, but we REALLY want to put a clear/glass spark arrestor only under our stove. HS Heritage is super simple operation and spark arrestor only. Hmmm... Decisions...

 

I'm a WS fan 100%. The hybrid will be a dream to own, it's simple to run and will give you some long hours of 2 stage burns, cat and secondaries.

 

No comparison. Two different sized stoves. Hearthstones PH equivalent would be the Mansfield.

I pushed almost 30 cords through my heritage before dumping it. It always ran as advertised but is not a durable stove. Not an efficient stove. And barely made it through the night.

Between the ph and the heritage I would tell my mom to get the Woodstock.

 

It works as advertised...easy operation 8 hr burns...i like mine...but there really is no comparison..55k vs 80k...ill be upgrading in a coupla years

 

I agree with the others that their really isn't a comparison between the two of them. If you want to similar sized stoves you should be looking at the Mansfield.

 

Actually I only need the smaller size. Heating ~1500 as feet. I just like the idea if the hybrid system.

 

I'd get the WS, then run in cat mode for really long burns.
Or, an Ashford 30 and do the same.
I'm curious to see if you're able to find something that will work under the stove.

Perhaps buy several pieces of stove glass to use as your protection layer?
You'd need a clear adhesive to anchor them.

I would def go with the progress..its easier to build a smaller fire in a bigger stove....and if you need to break out the big guns well then.....

 

Woodstock will be shipping a smaller hybrid next year that will be a 2.6cu ft stove, currently called "the Franklin" or the "Next Gearhead" stove. That might be perfect for you. Or the Fireview would be in the same size range to heat 1500sq ft but it isn't a hybrid.

Unfortunately, I can't get the wife to like the looks of the stoves except the PH, especially not the steel plate stoves. She likes the Hearthstone, Jotul and BK Ashford. I think I'm back to the Heritage. Allows installation close to the back wall and a glass spark arrestor below. I think the side door will address the perceived wimpyness of the hinges on the front door??????

 

Looks like hearthstone is rolling out an update to the heritage. It has the dropdown side door like the equinox. Maybe it Will hold up better?

The Heritage at my local dealer has the drop down side door, plus he's taking $300 of the stove MSRP and 20% off the pipe with install. Ashford 20 is MRSP and need R-rated hearth. Just sayin' I'm not going to put anything in this winter, will definitely wait til summer/fall. Personally, I really like the stove tops hidden under the soapstone of the PH, but, yeah, it really is WAY too much stove for us.

 

Ashford 20 or 30 requires ember only hearth protection.

 

All hinges on the heritage were crap. Hopefully the newest version is more robust.

I moved from the heritage to a princess. Same house. You do not want a 20 series bk, that is a lame duck stove. It does everything worse than the 30. If you are willing to consider bk then I still keep them as my #1 choice. Can't beat the burntime. Ashford 30 is very hard to beat.
