I am getting low. I will probably make it through February, but after that I am going to have to get more in. My wood shed just won't quite hold an entire winter's worth. Everything is top covered so I will just pick a good dry day and haul more in.
I'm in the same boat you are except there is no more good wood to haul in..lol.. Did pretty good for my first year though..
I hear ya tfdchief. I sold some of my driest stuff, and now I need to move some in from outside. I am also going to take down a few standing dead Ash I found. Bark is off them from the top and half way down. We will see what the moisture content is on them this weekend. I have three standing dead Pine right in my yard that need to come down as well. The top half of that stuff is dryer than smoke show's farts after a night of three movies and a lot of !!!!!
Same boat here. Im limping through myself im cutting next years wood but i need to get a little more for this season I have a energency stack of unsplit hickory and ash that has been stacked in the barn for two years trying to hold off on it as much as i can
I'm in the same boat as well, I put two cords in the shed every year but my shed also houses my wood splitter, lawn mower, snow blower, power wagon, fishing poles, shovels, rakes, garden hoses, etc etc etc..... I also top cover the stacks outside in the winter and I've got 3 cords outside all ready to burn. I think I'll do the same as you though and wait for a nice dry day and fill the shed again.
I gotz about 3 cord in the shed of 7-8 year old beech I'll be tapin' in about 2-3 weeks. Done pullin out of the heaphausen even though its only half gone. Rest of the winter is gonna be gravy pullin out of the attached shed,,,,, in slippers and shorts !!!
No shed here but the oak kitchen chairs are in out of the weather so I'll stay warm for another day or two.
I've found it's best to keep one foot in the dog house so you don't have far to walk.....maybe I could put a little wood stove like Chief's Hampton in there.
About 2 1/2 cords. When you take out the space for storage of other stuff. I could get more in there, but 2 1/2 is comfortable and ususlly 3 gets it done, so I am not to short and just have to haul in a little more. I don't like having anything left at the end of the winter either. I use that space in the summer for other things.
I know the feeling. I fill a covered porch in late October with 3 cords and that will not do what I need for the winter either. I will have to bring up one more cord in another week or so. That will get me through to shoulder season.
When it is good weather, I go to my stacks and bring in some dead standing Ash I just cut this winter. It is good to go already. Just put some in the little Hampton and it took off like 3 year old stuff.
I've got the same situation here. I started with just under two cords (1.8) in the shed and was hoping that would get me through but not gonna happen. Like you though I've got more to bring up!
Hold in there Chief. Usually in February we start getting a few more warmer days to tease us but my experience says we are past the half way point of the burning season. Some of our more southern friends quit burning a bit sooner than we do but we don't mind because they also use their air conditioners a lot more than we do. I think ours ran only 3 or 4 times last summer. We've gone through maybe just a bit over half the wood in the shed. Like you, I want it gone by summertime. so we can use the shed for other things.
