O.K. I'll soon have Masterminded MS261 and already have a Masterminded 461 and a stock 361. I have 20" by 0.325 and 3/8 bars and chains in full and semichisel and one square filed 3/8, 33RSL chain. So, what do you want to see compared? I really want to put an 8pin on the ported 461... Please let me know, so I can do a fair and useful real world comparo. So far I can do (all at 20" B&C)
RS vs. RSL vs. RM on any saw
    7 pin vs. 8 pin 3/8 on 361, 461.
RM vs. RS vs. RSL at 20" on all three saws.

Please let me know what you want to see. That will help me set up some scientific comparisons.

    Thanks,
    Mike

A ported 261 is an angry little feller, but a 20" in 3/8 pitch is going to be a bit much. No harm in playing though! I even tried a .325-8T rim on my fully molested 261 and wasn't impressed. Never ceases to amaze me at the torque loss in going from a 7T to an 8T. The only time I run 3/8 on mine is when using a 16" bar.

The 3/8-8T on a ported 461 is going to be a lot of fun and function with a 20" bar. I know several guys who (for whatever reason) run a 20" bar on their stock 460s with 8T rims and despite being grossly imbalanced in CCs per inch of bar length it seems to work very well for them as a firewood setup. To each his own.

If you want to really get crazy I have a .325-9T rim I would be happy to send you for playing around with the 361 & 461. A word of advice . . . crank up the oil pump despite a short bar . . . that's some chain SPEED!

Thanks for the offer of the 9 pin, but that's a little far out for me. I already have enough combo's to test out. OEM 8 pin is only $7.50. Local dealer had to order it, so, it will take at least a week. Hopefully, the weather will allow me to do some of the 7 pin comparos. Fingers crossed.

P.S. My 261 currently is set up with a .325, 7pin rim. Can I take my 3/8ths, 7pins from my 361 or 461 and put them on the 261???

Specifically, does the 261 need a "mini" or "small spline" rim?

The 261 is a smaller spline rim than your 361/461. Sorry...

I wish they were the same size. I'd LOVE to put my 3/8" lo pro rim on my 460 or 461!! :dex:

Thanks. That's what I was expecting. I'll have to pick up a 3/8ths small spline before I start testing...

I think it's a waste of time to put an 8 pin on a 361... even a ported one.

Me too. I think I'll only try the 8 pin on the 461, just for kicks. I've got too many combos already.

Awe, come on, it's in the name of science and adventure! :D There's a difference between a waste of time and non-productive time...

For instance, I have a 21" large mount Stihl bar! :saw:

    I can't believe a dealer doesn't have any 8 pin rims.

I have run a 21" large mount stihl bar in .404 full comp.

That's the chain I run on this one. It's a Duromatic though, and I recently acquired a good length of 1/2" chain so I'll be making a loop of that for it too!

    I agree..

Even the 461 won't benefit much with a bar longer than 20"-25". After that, the chain speed isn't worth the torque loss.

I finally got a chance to pick up my 3/8, 8T sprocket. I can't wait to compare it with the 7T on my 461 w/ 2o" bar. Anyone in Central PA got some 18"-ish diameter logs I can borrow to cut some cookies? Biggest I've got is 12-14" red oak. Hope the weather holds out through this weekend...

Yep, I do. Just have to be willing to help me tune the carb on my 372. I have a tach to make sure we don't melt it.
