Good to know. I tried 2 bags of Somersets 4 years ago and thought that they were similar but it was so long ago, I wasnt sure. They disappeared from this area right after I tried them.

Set's have been MIA around here ,scored 1/2 ton 2 yrs ago , have 2 bags in the stash that I got from my bud Steve . They may get burned real soon as the weekend temps dropping to single digits :shiver::shiver::shiver:

With all of the fuss, I would hope they're a lot better than that. FSU's are starting to lose their appeal with me.

Interesting you're comparing 'Sets to FSU's and you're going to switch to them for single digit temps. I switch from FSU's to Blazers for single digits and below.

I only burned 15 bags of FSU's last year that's all I could get with the pellet rationing last year ,and I thought they were good ,has the quality gone down?

Same here, Lacretes go in when the temp goes down. But if I recall, the Sets were not on the same level as the big boys.

Good question as I have not burned any of this year's batch. My brother bought 5 ton this year after I told him that they were good last year. He likes them, especially when he saved 100.00 per ton over the Cleanfire Hardwood he was getting at Woodpellet.com.

TTDberg and I think one other has had problems with them to the point they won't even burn them. They turn the inside of my stove jet black. I thought it was lack of air from the stove, but the 1 bag of Therma Glo I burned opened my eyes. I put them into an empty hopper after I cleaned the stove and the stove stayed clean. The Blazers run clean. But after the Therma Glo were gone and I put in more FSU's, instantly the black ash started coating the inside of the stove. They give out good heat but are a little ashy and the ash is very coarse and dense. It may be they just need more air and the P-61 can't provide it.

I tried 3 bags of FSU's a month ago. Good heat but left the burn pot and glass a mess.

Any hardwood I have used has course ash. Also, I always get higher ash volume that is dense and course from FSU but decent heat. The firebox gets a good coating from them, but not black and it was always easy to brush off on a quick cleaning.

Is the black stuff easy to clean, or sticky and require a hard scrubbing? I had that from Greene Team years ago and have not gone back to those since. I wonder if your FSU's got slightly damp?

Tough to say as I have had good results with FSU as has my brother. Batch issues or dampness might be in play?

As we always say YMMV ,or what works for one stove and set up may not work for another :)

No, it brushes right off but it leaves me a mess when I clean the stove. I don't have the problem with the glass like Unbidden, the class doesn't get dirty any faster than any other pellet. But the pellets seem to burn slower than most. When the stove is "idling", my flame is quite lazy. When it's burning strong, the flame is OK.

Wish I have, but no. The Blazers never materialized around here.

    How are they?

Excellent. Hot with virtually no ash in the burn pot. I was hoping you could compare them to the LaCretes and Spruce Pointe.

Well, the Spruce Pointe have a fair amount of ash, less than FSU but they have been in the basement for 2 years-dont know if 2 summer's moisture has gotten to them but shouldnt really be an issue?
The LaCretes have less ash but not none and a little bit hotter.

Sets over FSU at least in my stove. More heat and cleaner IMHO. To me Sets are still one of the upper class box store brands when I can find them.
