Grammy just called and told me the grandboys, 1 yr & 3 yrs, just came in from 3' snow drifts down in Portland, with dad. Had a ball and when they got inside, the lil one started chowing down on snow on his boots. Then the older one had to too. When I hung up, we were losin' it cause dad had put snow in bowls and they were going nuts...  Told them they oughta heat up some maple syrup and have some sugar on snow.

Fair enough.. maybe I have too much sympathy for our elected officials - it just seems to me like they are in a no-win situation with these decisions. If they declare and nothing happens then they get crucified in the media for hurting the economy. If they dont declare and something does happen then they get crucified in the media when people end up stranded on clogged roads that the crews cant get on to clear.

    that's all im sayin ...

Same happened to mine this weekend. Supposed to take a 1/4" shear bolt but none on hand. I riggesd it for now with a #8 all threaded cap screw that should be small enough to break.

Denver news is getting better, some actually post 3 models if certain conditions happen and the different outcomes. They have also had stranded motorists though too.

Fairly heavy snow coming straight down now instead of sideways.
Shoveled out the doors and steps. Looks like 20 inches so far.
I got a bit of shoveling to do and breaks to take to get to the snowblower in the garage.
    Sigh.
I used to like the first snow of the year.
Now I like it to be a dusting.

Watching new York come back to life. I'm glad they didn't get hammored.
The storm is still pounding us here in central Maine. The wind is strong. There hasn't been a plow come down our road, but then I didn't anticipate there will be until near the end of this storm. Steep hill on a dead end street with just a few homes on it. We are low on the priority list.

Hey Stinny, it does well but I still like to "plow with the storm" and the last hill to the road outta here, in fact the whole drive is really a sheet of ice thanks to the last few crappy storms. It's just about all it can do to get up it with the blade in the air so I can push it back (downhill).

One problem to consider and it happened in Buffalo last November . A tractor trailer jackknifed on I-90 causing hundreds to be stranded and snowed in on the interstate.
Locals here in the belt know to stay home when a big lake effect storm is coming. Those who drive in it everyday are used to it and can handle the conditions. When you get a white knuckle South Carolinian heading into NYC and they hit a 10 second white out they panic ,,, jam on the brakes and end up sideways in a 4 lane with soiled dockers and and cause a 10 car pileup which e'Fs up the whole interstate for 50 miles. In turn taking hours maybe days to get moving and plowed back. They shut down I=90 here a lot when lake events are predicted. It gives the plows wide open fast running to keep things clear. Most traffic just bypasses inland to get out of the snow bands and keeps on rolling. I think they did the right thing and shut it down.

They frequently shut down 84 and the Thruway (87 down here) for the same reasons. You hit it right on, those of us that have been around this stuff know when and what we can safely navigate. Those uncomfortable with winter driving should stay home safe.

They shut everything down with 12". We don't have the equipment. My road doesn't usually get plowed for 3 days.

Ugh that sucks. I found 4 bolts downstairs that should work. No grade label so less than 5 should be safe. Hopefully they work out. Much easier to blow than plow.

    Still snowing here.

    Hope you were mostly done.
I've snagged a timber but with the tractor bucket. The tractor won.

I have shear pins in a few places. Every year I'd not be able to find the ones I bought last year and now a have a small bin in the basement and a small jar in the garage. Course, now I don't try to clean up every flake of snow and let the sun get the edges and stay away from ice so I haven't sheared one for several years.
