So I bought a 52cc/20" Chinese chainsaw to play with for the G2G in May. I gotta say, for $100, new in the box, this thing cuts wood pretty decent. The chain was awful right out of the box, had to put a heavy grind to it to get it right again. But, once sharpened properly, it cuts pretty good, as good as semi-chisel is going to get anyways. The bar actually measures out about 18" from spike to tip and the chain is 76 links of .325" .058 semi-chisel. It fired up 4 th pull and after I backed the idle speed down a bit, it was running perfect. Took it out to play a bit today, dropped a couple 8" trees in the backyard. I'll post more as I play with it some more.
So I guess all those "other"brands you own are now for sale........... put a good chain on it and it will cut even better I changed to a Stihl RS and it cuts really good. still playing with the other variables.
For semi-chisel, this is some seriously decent chain. Looks just like any other mfg's chain, but looks can be deceiving. I'll put some more time on it and report back. And no, my Stihl's are not for sale. At the moment.
Right here! Mine was actually "barely used" and so it was a bit less, but honestly, very close to $100 with shipping.
what gas /oil ratio you running?? I am running standard 50:1, I read somewhere that running 25:1 the rings seal better, might give it a try
Just so nobody gets the wrong idea, AV is horrible on this thing and all the plastic bits have a real cheap feel to them. Like, happy meal toddler toy cheap. But it cuts wood!
I haven't really got it naked yet, but from what I see it's a split case design just like an 026 or 346XP.
Gonna post in our Chinese chainsaw thread too. But this link has some very cheap Earthquake saws 38, 41, 45 cc. Look atthe bottom row (As is) and then use coupon code EBAY. You won't believe how cheap they are (38 cc saw for under $40 and sometimes brand new in box!) http://moreoutdoor4u.com/chainsaw.aspx
I. Thought I wasent going to buy a quake but am seriously thinking about it just cause now!! Heck the bar n chain would cost you $30 to buy? Like I said over there buy it and play and if I tire of it sell it for $25 on cl.
Not that I need it, but I figured what the hell and was going to pick one of those up. Just put one in the cart and tried to check out but get a 'page can't be displayed' error. Maybe it's an omen...
Had to fight my way through it, but I'm now out $48.40 and Fed Ex will be bringing me 45cc's of sheer ground rattling terror or a box of parts, whatever it may be. Either way, I figure I'll get $48 worth of entertainment out of it, or at the very minimum a bar and chain that might fit something else. Thanks for the link Dex.
So I was poking at this saw tonight and deciding what I wanted to do for a muffler mod. Stock muffler ain't too shabby, but that inner baffle will have to go for starters.....
I was wondering if it was the same thing you guys had on the Quakes and if it had the internal baffle or not. My battle is do I split the muffler and re-weld it, making it fairly obvious that somebody modified it, or go the stealth route and pull it through the opening, which will leave small portions of it hidden in the muffler but all will appear stock on the outside. This is my G2G hotrods saw so do I want a blantantly obvious hotrod or a stock appearing sleeper?
