What is it you want a unit like that for HDRock? They are good for contractor use where they will be kicked around and paid for before the job even starts. No sensitive electronics, etc... They could work for emergency backup power for a homeowner as well but longevity and support down the road would be a concern.

The market is becoming flooded with Chinese generators. Not that they are all bad. But understand that 10 years from now, parts may be an issue, as there is still a relatively weak support network. But at a $300 price point, it's likely not going to be cost-effective to be replacing major parts anyways. Names mean nothing today either. The same generator will be sold on a different website under a different name, perhaps painted a different color, next year. I guarantee it.

The Home Depot "Ridgid" 8000watt generator with the Subaru engine has been flawless for me. $1200 several years ago.

It may not be worth investing a ton of money into a generator then. You are probably on the right track. ;)

I got my geni from them, but I don't think it was that brand name. What I looked for was pure sine. So many things in the house have electronic components. Without pure sine, there is a high risk of damage to the circuitry. I can't that unit saying anything about it.

Check out the Champion brand for the same price. They can be had at Tractor Supply.

Here is my output at about half load. And it does not trip my UPS.

I got an email from Northern Tool for $100 off coupon for that so I figured I would ask about it here.
I might just find a deal on Craigslist on one

I'm not a big fan of gennies. to much messin around making sure they are going to run when you REALLY need them. We have been with out grid power for 2 weeks at a time in the past but we have had a plan in place to deal with what we consider a minor inconvenience. Heat and cooking is a no brainer since we have wood and a stove, When it gets dark we go to bed, food storage is an issue but we can most of our food and a freezer if left un opened will keep food froze for along time if it is full. And as most times is the case it is usually cold enough out that if food starts to thaw it can be stored outside. What I really don't like about having to rely on a generator is the fuel storage for when I need it. A 3.9 gallon tank may be rated to run 10 hours at load but in the event of an area wide power outage and the gas runs out you cant just run to the station and fill up yer plastic gas cans and go home and be back in business cuz them gas pumps at the station don't run with out lectricity neither. I suppose water would be a major issue but if a little fore thought is done that can be worked around also depending on yer situation. JMHO.

Before I bought the generator that I had I was without power for 2 weeks and it was 85 degrees out luckily my sister had power and I was able to borrow their generator.
But yeah water and the refrigerator power is kind of important. I did have to rewire my pump for 110

If you want to stick it to the thief buy the ironton, slap a generac sticker on it, and leave it where your old generator was stolen from. The thief will be pizzed when he figures out what he really really stole this time. In all seriousness I would kick it up a notch in quality to something that is at least name brand. Like mastermech said, it would work for a job site but I wouldn't trust it for backup power 8 months down the road.

I had wanted a generator off and on ever since the blizzard of '78.
I had an event last spring where the power was off for 8 hrs - 4 of which was an oversight of the power company due to a storm.
I was looking at generators and more specifically a lightly used one on CL.
I came across a 2002 Campbell Hausfeld 5500 watt with a 10hp B&S for $220. It appeared to be used very little. The fuel lines were rotted.
After replacing the fuel lines it seemed to start- run great last spring.
I had another outage last week. I couldn't start it due to the cold weather but with a squirt of either it kicked right off and I ran my sump pump with it.
I was telling my older son about not being man enough to start my generator. He has a much newer 6500 watt and he got it out and couldn't start it either. It had started just fine for him last August.

While I'm at it, I need to write about a previous generator experience 10 year's ago.
There's a misc. junk/hardware/surplus store near my house we call the "Mall".
They had a Chinese 1000 watt generator for $120.
The governor oscillated so there was no way you should run anything with it but a drop light or electric drill/skilsaw.
A year later, I got it out to use it and the coil was dead. Not another coil to be found anywhere on earth.
