We've had an interesting couple of weeks here and it culminated Friday when we talked to our surgeon. I am on the line for needing or not needing surgery. He would gladly go ahead with it if I wanted it but we left it that we will keep monitoring blood for a while to make sure there is not too much metal in there. This has to do with the hip replacement. Some metals getting into the blood and it can turn really bad. Still, I'd rather not have the surgery. They said it will be worse than the first time. No. Don't sound good to me. But now we can rest a spell over this one.

Next week we get some work done on the neck. But that isn't bad.

What ever happens Dennis, you will be assured of a fum full of support/prayers for the both of you!
In the meantime, with the risk of all that metal in your bloodstreams, do me a favor and don't stand too close to the refrigerator!

Not to sure about the refrigerator comment but a sure sign if metal levels are getting too high is when a microwave is turned on and you wet yourself. Seriously though don't put things off til real damage is done permanently.

Metal from the replacement is getting into your blood. Is the only way to control it, replacing again or can medication help?
I can understand you don't want to get cut open again, I feel you there. I just wish there was another way.

My poor wife had a both knees replaced. Then a year later it got infected. Her knee was removed for three months. She was home. I did her blood draws and did her iv's every day. Had it not been infected, the surgery would have been simple.
My point is to make sure that waiting doesn't put you at a higher risk. If you can find out the predictable odd, like 80 out of a 100 won't have problem, then I can understand close monitoring.

It looks like you have a good plan in place Dennis. Hopefully surgery will not be need unless absolutely necessary.

Apparently getting the old one out is the only answer. I'll put it off a while for sure unless something happens to change my mind.

I agree Stinny. These last 2 years have been tough ones for us. It would be nice to get some relief in more than one way.

Update, I will be talking to the surgeon again in about 2 weeks. The decision has been made here. We want it out before worst things happen. Now we'll see what the surgeon is thinking and he has seen more since I was there.

I wish you the very best with that procedure. Is it one or both hips? Will you have time to give blood to be used for yourself? it is worth considering.

Only one of the hips. Probably won't need blood. I've had both done and no blood needed. Same with wife. I did do that though when having back surgery as I really wasn't too hot on the idea of someone else's blood in me.
