I'd say 1980 going by the first digit being zero. The 288XP's (first year of production was 1988) predecessor the 181 then the 281 were made in the early-mid '80's.
Thanks...I need all the help I can get !! I am for some reason facinated with these right now They seem to be slimmer..and handle better than alot of the "fat" saws made today . But the Husky 550xp and 545 still take the cake with me for handling and power for what gets cut in my woods !

I actively searched for 2 years to find a brake band for my old 61..... best of luck and Ill keep an eye out too. Just don't hold your breath

Hey thanks buddy !!! It was on there awhile...and it finally got the best of me !! I think its cool that the rear handle is all aluminum !! It feels really good in the hand too
