What's happening firewood friends, I've been on the hunt for free wood on Craigslist for a few weeks now, and I finally found a little honey hole of oak. This guy bought a foreclosure on a big piece of property in Jersey.. Apparently the guy he bought it from was some sort of horder, he's got 5 buildings on the property and they're stuffed with chit. Anyway the ad said 50 vanload of firewood so I figured I'd give it a shot, since it's only 1/2 hour from my house.
He's got a big red oak down that flattened a OLD crappy boat, and a bunch of others down. I cut 2 limbs up that were like 12-16 in diameter. Got 27 rounds in my first load. Going back till that tree is gone, maybe 2-3 more trips. My 3 cord that I had is dwindling , so I'm gonna load up everything this guys got.

I'ts hard in nj where I live , I'm close to the coast so there's not much woods around here that's not owned by the state, I have my name on a few tree company lists , but this time of the year , they're slow. And I refuse to pay for mediocre wood from someone I don't know. Plus it's fun to run a chainsaw!

I went back today and got another load of bigger red oak, some cherry, and I cut down a standing dead tree, have no idea what it was.. No bark, but I got home split it and am burning it now. Good stuff. There's a big cherry tree that I'm eyeballing .. It's rotted at the base and leaning , so I may just take it down. Plus there's another standing dead that's around 35' long that I'm gonna get for the rest of the winter. This place is a tree goldmine!! The guy told me I could cut down whatever I wanted.

Now that is one top notch find!!!!! Get all you can and help the guy clean up the place a little bit. That will show your appreciation. And perhaps a gift of a dinner out for him and his wife might be in order.

You know what the best part about it is? No cleaning up, he's clearing the land and trying to get as much stuff down and outta there before he levels all the buildings. It's a forclosure clean out!

It's like a dream.. I could drive my truck all over between trees , I'm actually thinking about going in the snow/rain tomorrow just to get that cherry tree.

And another bonus- the guy said he's always clearing land and has wood all the time. So I may need to get him a bottle of his favorite drink.

I'd get all you can as fast as you can. I have a similar deal with a lady down the road who offered me all the dead trees on her lot, which would be three or four year's worth of White Ash. I am trying to move the wood as fast as I can just in case something happens, she offers it to somebody else, I gut too busy to cut firewood, or whatever. I am cutting it into four foot lengths and moving them home. I'll cut to stove length and split later, but for now I am all about moving wood. I think you should be too. Who knows when the owner will decide to bulldoze?

Yup, I agree, he told me to get as much as I could in the next few days , so I'll try and get at least 4 more loads before something happens.

The thrill of a good scrounge...day after day of hauling as many loads as you can before it dries up:dex: While the current load is great, having that relationship in the long run is huge.

I'm mad that I have two kids parties today and that it's raining .. Lol. I want to go cut some tree. I'm firing up the chainsaw early tomorrow morning. I hope the neighbor over there doesn't mind

Judging by what you described the neighbor it probably ecstatic to see that yard get some cleaning. His property value is going up.
