    I'd say 1980 going by the first digit being zero. The 288XP's (first year of production was 1988) predecessor the 181 then the 281 were made in the early-mid '80's.

    Thanks...I need all the help I can get !! I am for some reason facinated with these right now :)
    They seem to be slimmer..and handle better than alot of the "fat" saws made today . But the Husky 550xp and 545 still take the cake with me for handling and power for what gets cut in my woods !

    Put an ad in classifieds section on here... But thought id at it here as well. Need a good working wire handle chain brake for this 162. Also 61,66,166,268,272 work as well. Thanks guys !! image.jpg

    I actively searched for 2 years to find a brake band for my old 61..... best of luck and Ill keep an eye out too. Just don't hold your breath :(

    Hey thanks buddy !!! It was on there awhile...and it finally got the best of me !! I think its cool that the rear handle is all aluminum !! It feels really good in the hand too :)
