Have you played with 63PS chain yet Mike? Really makes a difference on a 50cc and smaller in my experience. Small kerf, aggressive cutter, the stuff is hungry....

Depends on who files it. I've got 30-50% faster depending on how much work is done and angles used.

Thanks Mike for explaining to him.

Clem off the reel square chain is considered slow.

Off reel times. 357xp 7T running 93 octane 32:1 and a rich 13.8k. 3 cuts per chain. Chains were work chains tested.

clean 10"x10" very dry poplar cant in the barn that has been there for well over a year now.

I had a lot of that stuff wrote down and in threads on AS before the hack. I never went back and straightened them out. Improving square isn't hard once you figure out what angles do what and how much power it takes to pull it.

I have a factory "sharp" loop of Oregon CL that makes me long for some good Stihl RM. Yeah, it's that bad!

It "shouldn't" be that bad.. 9 times out of 10, Oregon's offerings are faster than equivalent Stihl offerings off the roll...
From my experience anyway... Of course there's the "quality control" variable in that equation...

No question the rakers are way too high to suit the conditions in the first vid...
Maybe MM got a bad loop?? Or... Stihl has changed the specs on their RS chain... Seems the last loop I got was rather sporty compared to loops of the past..
Dem sneaky Germans is up to something...

Wasn't the RS close to the square when you tested chains at your place?

Just depends on what your selling that day. :D

Me I tested them and posted my results of my off the reel chains. All right there together as stock dull chains are. Me I dont care if folks buy stihl or oregon. ;)

Hey hedge. I hear if you just run some amsoil 100:1 in your stock saws and some stock off the reel rs chain you dont have to build a racesaw. Man I wasted all that money way back when. :heidi::rofl:

The RS tested great in the Hackberry, but fell off by almost a second in the big pine block. It's hungry stuff for off the reel chain..
I swear they've changed it over the years... Or maybe I'm crazy...
Set all the rakers to the proper height, and the square "Should" pass the round...
But... The factory grind on the square's are quite blunt... And I don't know why they do that. Durability?
True.. I'll run anything.. I'm a chain whore...
But LGX Oregon is still faster than RS once sharp proper...

Hedge. They have changed if you look at the old RS then RSC then the new RS which is just RSC again. Can explain sometime. Starts with cutter angle and rakers.

Yep never had a real race chain made with stihl. Only oregon for real race chains that made the cut. All else was just gtg cull chains is what I called them about 3 tenths slower per cut then the real good stuff.
