That's cool. I have a question for you guys with splitters. He is letting go of the lever and the ram is retracting. How does that work? Is it a special valve with a detent on the return? What happens when it gets all the way retracted?
Yes, it has a return detent, and when it hits the end it returns it to the "neutral" position. Really nice feature, most have the "Auto return", but not all so make sure you check the specs....
Thanks for that. So, I've been trying to rehab this old home made splitter. If I want it to do this, do I need a special valve? How do they return to neutral?
Somebody else can probably answer that better than I, but I'm sure it's just a hydro valve with a pressure return on one side. The extra pressure buildup when it hits the end is what releases it, so it's just a pressure sensitive detent. The pressure just knocks it out of the detent somehow... not sure exactly how it works inside the valve....
My buddy and I are in the early stages of a diy splitter build too. I'm trying to get as many ideas as possible. Once I get pictures of what we are working with I'll crate a separate thread.
