Well a guy I know at work offered all the trees he wants down to me.So the family and I drove over to his property yesterday and look to see what he had.He has this winding and extremely steep and hilly drive through the woods to his house.So this morning I hook up the truck to the 16' gooseneck dump trailer.load the saws and supplies along with straps and chains in the bed.Load up the New Holland skid steer with grapple bucket.I drive the 10 or so miles to his place and start up the drive.4wd engaged and up we go.NOT.I make the first bend and no sooner than got straightened out and we lost all momentum and are sliding back down the drive on 3" of solid slick ice. Luckily we stopped before the trailer went off the drive and down the hill.I had no room to get the skidloader off.So I had my son slide over and hold the brakes.I pulled out the winch cable.wife hooked up the remote control.I slipped and slide up to an anchor tree. We then proceeded to drag the whole operation up the hill.what an adventure everything I do turns into.LOL! I made a video of us on the second pull but it was at the top and doesnt really show the hill.Sure was hairy though when we started out.we took down 4 trees and filled the trailer.I have got lots more to take down and bring home in the future.
Wow! Glad you got it stopped. How did you get back down? I think I would have tried it again on another day without ice

Years ago we traveled from NJ to a funeral in Pittsburgh. My in-laws' next door neighbor was there, and he must have noticed I was looking at his lapel pin. He asked if I had traveled far to get there, and I said yes, we had just come a long distance from the east. He thrust out his hand to shake mine, and the grip seemed odd. This small town Catholic boy had no idea what he was talking about, nor the significance of the handshake. I was just giving an honest answer to his question, and I didn't figure out his confusion at my (non) reaction til years later.
The weather has really produced a lot more ice this winter than most. Great story that could have gone bad, with a good ending. Nice loads

I've never officially guarded the door, counted the cash, or paid the bills. Everything else, at least once. My granny's one hundred and seventy one, her last name is Anthony, and she lives in Albany.

Nuthin hairier than coming to a stop going up an icy hill with a trailer on... then sliding backwards. Glad you could get it stopped before making all those annoying expensive sounds...
Well I have to say it was quite interesting when I was driving forward but sliding backwards at the same time! I remained calm the whole time.I knew even if I slid off the drive the trailer was going to beach on trees so it wouldn't be too horrible.Just make it even worse to get unstuck though. I'm just glad I put that winch on the front a few year ago.I've used it to pull trees over,logs and a friends truck out of a resivour. That was the only day I had off and I was determined to get some wood hauled home.We cut the rest of the afternoon and the sun was out and was in the 40's.The ice had actually softened up by the time we left.So when we went home the trip back down hill was a breeze. I was even able to stop before launching out onto the road.LOL!
Well these hills were in a woods on the west side of Kokomo.I know it seems flat but we do have some big ones around here.LOL On a side note I'm sitting in the J.D. chair.This is my 2nd year as an officer.still young in my travels.I spend alot of time as assistant chapter Dad to our Demolay chapter which my son is Master Councilor of this term.
I plan to get another load after work tonight.I imagine most of his drive is melted off now with the warm temps we've been having this week.Got to get the wood while the getting is good.
You guy's need to explain that Grainger?? "talk" for us. We have a lot of ice right now also. Today I threw the chains on the tractor & did the Skid steer last week.
Well got home and hooked up the dump trailer.Kids and the wife jumped in and it started raining. Wife asks "Are you really going to cut in the rain and the mud?" I spouted off "you'll be inside the heated skidloader cab". So we made a nice country mile drive around the country and pulled back in the drive.Turned to sleet quickly so I gave up.We're going to go tomorrow after work now.So the wood has to wait
