We are supposed to drop to -4F, but it is also supposed to be 13 now and is 19, so perhaps we won't get as cold as predicted. Cloudy tonight too, which helps.
The ground is icy. Very little snow, and does not seem to be much forecast even through February, not that I believe forecasts even two days out....anyway, sitting pretty with my wood supply, which is a thing of beauty.

Right now we are at about 13º and it is slowly dropping. A 50/50 load of Maple and Ash. A good night for that mix.

Looked like about -1 on the back porch. The Maple/Ash mix was 90% gone at 5am. Put one big half round of standing dead Pine on top of the thick coal bed. That should get me till 6. Then I will load it up with the Maple/Ash mix again.

The stove's been cold for about 4 days now. Daytime temps have been in the upper 40s. It's actually kind of nice to get a break from burning. Back to burning on Thursday.

How do you get away without burning any wood for 4 days with temps at 40 degrees?

    Same ol mishmosh mix.
Kinda liking the lumber cutoff/coal mix. It's worked well even down below zero temps. First year I've tried it. Got about 15 cord of it last winter stock piled. Loads were running about 40% oak 40% maple 20% cherry and 10% of this/that. Dries in a year well. Have access to all I want . No one seems to want this stuff. It is a lot of long lengths but most between 12"-30" which works well for my furnace.
If I told ya how cheap I'm getting a tri-axle loaded,,, ya'll wood be haters!

The oil furnace. Supposed to be 52 today. The stove would run us out if I had it burning. I miss the comfort of the stove's heat, but that warmth also tends to make me lazier than I already am, so at least I'm getting more stuff done around here.

Sunny and cold here yesterday and today, but both days and nights a few degrees warmer than forecast. No wind either, although a decent amount was forecast. Felt quite comfortable out...no frozen hands, even at 12 degrees, without the wind.

Anyone seen Microsoft's announcement today? Big secret project that has been ongoing for 5 years...both my son and nephew work on it. Absolutely amazing stuff....I had several things I thought they might be working on, but this blows you away. Can see tons of potential for it, including having great grandma in the room even though she is 3000 miles away.....

0º this morning with a slight breeze. The boiler went through a whole load of 3/4 Ash and 1/4 Maple last night. Going to fill it up with just Ash splits before I go to work. Have a good one.

OT is 31. Got up at 6:30 and the stove room was 79. Put a small fan on the hearth blowing under the stove and it's now 82 in there at 8:00. Won't load the stove for at least another hour. I loaded it at 10 last night so I consider it to be more than 10 hours of useful heat. If it were 10 degrees outside, it would be at least 2 hours less I'd imagine.

It was about 10º this morning before breakfast. Still kinda chilly. Mostly Ash with a little Maple filled the boiler this morning.

    Wood stir fry.
My hillbilly furnace grate finally chitthebed. Cant find the other half of the vintage cast iron duct grate I cut up 2 years ago. I think its under a pile of wood in the wood room.
Found an old sewing machine treadle this last summer and threw that in. Works jimdandy !

Last night, 1-22, was in the low 20's and I was burning some "Purple Haze." A combination or red oak and blue ash.
