It was our night to start the sleds, we did get another two inches of snow so I took mine and the wife's down the road an around the house.

What can cause the lights to dim?

No battery, I'll check the wiring. I'm not sure on the snow but another six inches of the white stuff before the weekend would be nice.

Voltage regulator. I'm a big sled head, and have an Indy 500 efi 94 just like yours but liquid cooled, an 87 Indy trail, older chassis/ body than yours, and another new Polaris 600, in addition to the 2up Yamaha venture 600. The voltage regs on these year polaris' is known to do this. Check the ground/ mount on it first for corrosion. Clean and reinstall with some contact cleaner. It's on the chassis under hood should be by your left foot area. You may need a new one. Dies it ever get bright at different throttle positions or after a while of running?

I just checked the forecast, maybe an inch on Saturday. If the roads still covered with snow, I'll hit our trails first and then maybe the county trails.

I added more to my post. I'll get pics of what you are looking for. Should be a simple fix, but dangerous to trail ride with after dark, esp if you get out on public trails.

Try cleaning it up first. It's in the picture I attached. Contacts could be crusty, out that it's on its way out. Parts unlimited brand is junk FYI. Get a genuine Polaris one, even if used.

Yep, that's it. Yours is failing the good way. The bad way they fail they put to much voltage to the bulbs and burn them out. My newest Polaris did this just like yours with dimming, but only the first time the sled ran in fall/ winter. Then it cleared up never causing an issue for several seasons, after cleaning it up. There was corrosion. I've not replaced mine that was acting up because it stopped acting up after I took a few minutes and cleaned it up.

I just read on one of the snowmobile forums that you can shut your hand warmers off an that could help.

Yep, or put a led tailight in. Even running handwarmers and thumb warmers on low and not high will help. Does High or low beams make a difference? There's 3 bulbs, 2 for low, 1 for high (or is it the other way around?) The 2 outer ones are 35w each so 70watts, and center is 55watts.
Now the big question...after the lights went bright again, did they get dim or full power even with hand/thumbwarmers on if you let it cool off a few hours then start it?

The high/low beam usually make a difference, tonight it was a very small difference. We have the 3 bulbs, 2 for low and 1 for high.

On your last question, I'll have the answer tomorrow night.

The lights had just got real bright before I shut it down tonight. I'll run it tomorrow night with the hand warmers off/on low just to see if it makes a difference.
