It takes a big man to realize he's done something badly and put it up on YouTube anyhow. I can't mock anyone's technique this week. I was splitting wood with a neighbor a few days ago and he loaned me his antique monster maul, which must weigh 15 pounds not counting the steel handle. I tried swinging it like my Fiskars and pulled a muscle in my forearm.
I've got one of those too. I find it most effective to kinda just lift it and drop it and let that massive head do the work. They will wear you out quick otherwise
As soon as I saw the headers on the engine, Even more effective than that is to drill a hole completely through the handle at the far end of the head. Thread a heavy rope through it, about 35-50 feet or so, and tie it off. Tie the other end of the rope to the bow of your fishing boat and throw use your old anchor for a door stop.
He is going to be in sorry shape when he turns 50 if he keeps that up. I'd call the oil truck before I beat up my body like that for wood.
The young man is not stupid. He appears to be hardworking. "Unfortunately, strength is wasted on the young." He'll learn eventually. Somebody tried telling him but he probably didn't listen because at this point the testosterone is producing like crazy and the intellect has not yet kicked in. yooperdave, you nailed it. LOL.
I'm 50 and I can still load logs that are that size and larger. I just have to be more careful about technique than I did when I was younger. Injuries take longer to heal than they used to!
818-Welcome aboard! As far as the I can still do it at 50 goes, all I will tell you is to just wait. You'll see. Happens to everyone and you won't be the exception.
Been there done that, thats why I've had 3 back surgeries, Poor guy…. Somebody tell him they now have hydraulics
I am 64 and want to still be doing this at 74 so I am careful. I can still lift pretty good with no back problems at all and plan on keeping it that way by not doing anything that is not necessary. Yes hydraulics.
Unfortunately a splitter would be no help for the star of the video. Get him one and I bet he will still screw up his back by lifting rounds up onto it.
