I don't want to throw a wrench to any of this but what about places that allow leaf burning and other things for disposal? I lived in Connecticut for 4 years and seen many of times people burning outside  , leaves, shrub, brush, you name it and smoke that went down the road for miles, I just saw the same in Wisconsin a week ago…. Driving through Ohio, the same… Etc….

Happens all over Maine every fall and it's usually no big deal as far as folks complaining goes.

Yes I would agree but the EPA is focusing on PPM and could not care less about the facts except what comes out of your pipe.
They measure what comes out of the pipe plain and simple.
If you read through this whole thread :hair: you will see that we are in agreement for the most part.
I am just pointing out what the EPA is using in their analysis of wood burning, nothing more not sure why some of you want to kill the messenger.

Here is the problem restated. Someone else made a similar comment. With a wood stove or fireplace, there are many factors that go into clean burning. Even with a stove that has the perfect burning efficiency, I am positive I can find someone that will mess it up. We all know it's not just about the stove. However; the evil empire, EPA, does not have the ability to regulate each homeowner individually on their burning practices. Add the purchase of wood at varying states of seasoning, those that collect their own, etc.... you end up with different results. As a result, the evil empire, EPA, can really only regulate the wood stove. To the point where it's absolutely insane to burn wood. At that point, the evil empire will have won.

The few posts right before that comment is why I thought it was obvious what I was referring to.

It was clear to me what you meant, idiot woodburners meaning some woodburners behaving like idiots.

    Not so hard.

Well if you can go back and read this thread with out puking you will see all I was saying was what the EPA was up to and the guide lines they used. I never said it was right wrong or other wise, the only point Scotty and I did not agree on was "they are out to get us" because we were taking money out of their pockets.
Not sure how any one thought I was saying some thing else.

Yes very well could happen, more then one way to skin a cat, I wonder if it is already happening in some areas.
Plus they might want you to buy a new stove to keep your insurance.
OMG you have my wheels spinning now, the health insurance companies could get involved.
They ask you if you smoke ciggs. and now they will ask if you burn wood.:bug:

I'm actually getting nervous about my insurance myself.
When we installed our stove the rep (who I know personally) told me " as long as you are burning safely, what can they do?" Naive on both our parts. I need to recheck properly very soon. I do have a DEFRA stove (UK EPA) so thats hitting the mark for now.

Daft to admit, Im not getting sweeping certs, although he a cracking time served bloke of 30 years. I will do from now on.

Honestly I can't stand that the government wants to further control our lives. They do this either by taxing us, imposing stringent fees or regulations that are impossible to meet. I am not suggesting that we can be irresponsible in our actions such as burning wood. In fact, I all for people learning to harvest, store and burn wood properly. As much as I think I know, I joined this site to further my knowledge. What I truly like about this site is that when you ask a question, you'll often get varying answers. There is not always a black and white way to do things.

Problem is how do you bring this knowledge to the masses?

I think it's your sense of humor that I'm not familar with so please excuse me for that. It's just that when I read things I take it literally , which is what we are suppose to do, no harm done &now I know where you are comming from.
    Peace brother
