French Onion Soup with Gruyere & Toasted Baguette tonight. Last time I made it was in mid November, been using same basic recipe for years.Mom found it in some magazine probably 40 years ago,I copied it down when still in high school. :dex:

Onion soup is normally considered an appetizer, but with the butter/olive oil mix used to slowly caramelize onions for a couple hours, the generous amount of sherry, beef broth & added cheese broiled on top its rich enough for a cold weather main dish. ;)

I can eat it anytime of year though, even summer if I'm inside the AC.

I made a basic turkey soup with carrots, onion and celery. I added tortellini, penne, dutch egg noodles and orzos. It was topped with parmesan cheese and black pepper. The sandwich is ham and cheese with fresh French bread from the local bakery made this morning.

This is on my to make list very soon. I got the pigs feet in the freezer. I told my wife what I planned on making and I'll probably end up eating it all myself lol. Maybe my 3 year old will like it if I just not mention the pigs feet.

If you haven't checked out Hank's site and are into hunting and or fishing you're really missing out.

Once I saw this, I though you were going to go with Pig Feet Jello.

Were finally making our own pasta with the hand crank pasta maker we got for Christmas. We'll have the pasta and either my wife's bolognese sauce, or her family's red sauce.

Not by blood, but her grandma came from Sicily. That's where she learned her recipes. She just started making bolognese. I just got done rolling out the dough she made about an hour ago. She just put it in the pot. I made 1.5mm capelli pasta. Yes, going with the bolognese.

Got a leg of lamb in the slow cooker which after four hours is filling the house with a delectable smell. Another four hours to go.

Baking bread with the kids today. It has to be at least 15 years since I have made it. Plain white recipe. Right now it is sitting in a bowl about 8' from the fire, 15 minutes into the rise.

    My favorite white bread recipe.

My kids had been bugging me, so I mixed up a loaf a couple of weeks ago, only to find my loaf pans are packed away in a storage unit  So, I made some rolls. Just not the same.

Lunch/Main meal was so good. I did the lamb, Campinspecter did the rest. Garlic roasted potatoes!

Muffin pan meat loaves ;) Better known around here as 'meat muffins'

    0118151645a.jpg

My wife bought the unused Pampered Chef stoneware muffin pan at a secondhand store for $2.50  I can understand why, as this is the only thing I've ever cooked in it. Perfect for something like this, but I much prefer the plain old muffin tins for muffins and cupcakes.

We got a Pampered Chef pizza stone and toaster oven sized pastry tray. Once you get them seasoned they are pretty good. I can picture making pastry meat pies in that muffin stone. Just would have to figure out how to get the pastries to sit in right.

I would rather have muffin stoneware, which is very difficult to find cheap. I hate how food sticks to metal.

My wife bought a turkey breast to cook tomorrow. I think there is some turkey soup in the near future.

I really like turkey stock. I get the carcasses from Thanksgiving to make stock with.
