Lookin good. Sounds like you are cutting with a ufo hovering above you that's trying to beam you up to see Scotty.

What is the purpose of square filed chain? Is it just for racing or is there advantage for work chain use? Sorry if it has been covered before but need someone to educate me.

Its almost twice as fast as round ground, when the right person files it and the right person is running the right saw. That said not sure how my results will turn out.

mdavlee has some videos that prove this, and has posted them on here before.

For firewood unless your proficient at file I g it your not going to use it. It dulls way faster.

I would think that square will stay sharp longer due to there being more material supporting the corner.

One other plus for square is that it's smoooth cutting chain. There is quite a bit of skill involved in making it work well however.

Square is awesome for falling and bucking fresh wood. Dirty skidded wood is better suited to using semi chisel. I get better life from square filed than round. It does take most people longer to sharpen it.

I had just got a load of wood and was bucking and splitting rounds. I did not feel the cold. It probably was only in the 40s at the time of the video??? Not really sure?

And Yea I hate the way it turned out with the mic. It really makes it sound bad. Maybe I will move the phone back some and do some more passes tomorrow. I need to do another video anyway with a stock round chain anyway.

What kind of wood and how long has it been down ?
Was it self feeding, or were you pushing on it ?

Some strange things I have noticed on just the PS3, I dont remember yours, but top plate angles on the PS3 need to stay above 25, or in certain wood types (I was cutting fresh and downed Dogwood), the wood just cloggs in the corner of the cutter. If you notice this with yours, please send it back to me for a better job, I will take care of the postage !

That is white oak. Post white oak to be very specific.

It was cut by a logger on one of my tracts, I think along about september. I got the tree the day after it was cut and has been laying in my drive since.

I wouldnt really call it self feeding. It was but I was pushing pretty darn hard as well and the saw I dont think was out of its power band. Feels like the rakers could be lower. The saw had plenty of power to youll the chain, I think even if the whole bar were burried in a log.

I have a decent chain on the bench. Just saw it this mourning. I need to put a fresh grind on out and I will get a comparison vid up. Its forester brand chain I believe. But everything else is either skip tooth husky, husky with that stupid bumper link (whick I can't seem to get to cut as well as non bumper link chain) and a few stihl loops that are about triangles for teeth.

The reason I have skip tooth is cause thats what the logger I get them from uses for some reason???? He runs them on 365 with 20" bars . I get the ones the crew has all jacked up hand fileing for free with half or more tooth left. I just grind back to spec.

Stihl MS650 fresh round ground chain in white oak:

It wasnt as bad as you think. Here is the video with round ground full chisel chain.

I did not check the raker on this chain and think they need to be lowered some as well.
But I was pushing just about the same with this saw. It was noticeablly slower almost double the time. I wish I had a new chair. To compare to as well. I will get one and make a video with that as well.

I wish the sound could be better, then I could throw out a suggestion about raker height.

I measure rakers with a straightedge and calipers ............. best is for me to have that chain back so I can set them a little deeper
Second best is if we go to specifics and you feel comfy filing them rakers. It takes about an hour
Up to you, but I will take care of your shipping if you send them back to me. You also get (1) free sharpening on each chain as well

Well then I needs to go cutting and get my wear out of it:)

I will try and move the phone/camera twice as far away to clean up the sound. I believe I have some videos posted where its not as garbled up? All filmed on this phone, I think? I did have another one but I think the videos I am referring to came from this one as well.

I just remembered the other videos are with the point and shoot camera. I will make a video with it and the square chain.

Those 3 passes are the only ones on the chain so far.

No need to do that for me unless you want to do the rakers at your place.

Dull that chain a bit, then when you send them back, please just remind me of this thread and I will take care of everything else !
