Thanks! I've been meaning to join for awhile now. Finally figured out where some folks ended up landing. (From the other forum).
Welcome Skier. Interesting comment about the Okies Gold. It's been a hot topic on here lately but you echo the sentiments of other members to the dismay of the Okies salesman who is also on here. Hope you like beer 'cause we all do.
Thanks guys! Good see some familiar faces here. M I bought the Okies from the dealer I bought my stove from. But I can't say they're much better than what I've grabbed at the big box store.
I bought a few bags of these a while back and just dumped one into the hopper tonight. It won't be terribly cold tomorrow (around 20), but the wind is supposed to be somewhere around 30 mph. Figured I'll see what this whole softwood craze is about. The bags are tough. I have an old pocket knife that is desperately in need of sharpening on top of the furnace and I pretty much had to stab the bag to death to get it open.
I loaded the hopper with these. They are sitting on top of about a bags worth of mixed pellets I wanted to use up so I won't have pure AWF until later this week. Initially impression is they are very light as one would expect from a softwood pellet. They are on the smaller side. The pellets had plenty of fines stuck to them. None in the bag and no dust cloud, but the pellets themselves were dusty.
The ash on these is fantastic. I am 10 bags in, plus a bag of pellets potpourri, and no cleaning necessary. These are easily in the Vermont Woods, Okies Platiinun category of ash level. Heat TBD. Need to have a night were I can run on low
Here are my results. Feed Rate: 2.6 lbs/hr Heat: 143.6 For comparison MinuteMan 2.6 142.1 Freedom Fuel 2.8 144.6 Okies Platinum 2.9 146.1 Nations Choice 2.6 144.6 Cubex 2.9 145.2 AWF Pine 2.6 143.6 In order to get a similar feed rate I had to take my stove off its lowest setting, which is level 1 with auger trim down, and raise it to just level 1. This could explain some of the lack of heat people are experiencing. These would seem cooler on a fixed setting compared to other pellets. I love these pellets, only better box store pellet I have ever burned would be Blazers.
so I went shopping with the wife, Target and Home Depot are right next door to each other. I told her I had to got to HD real quick. she had a little extra in the back of her SUV when we came out of Target! I think I have a sickness....
I haven't see the AWFs for quite awhile. Where did you find them? Let us know how the Thermaglos do. My local HD has a few tons.
