What bar oil are you all using? As for me I have always used Stihl oil in all the saws.
I guess I have never really thought about it. Just bought more when I needed some. I haven't had
any issues and may never change, but thought I see what your thoughts were?

I buy cheap bar oil and it works fine. They have gallons of milemaster on sale at at woods for 6.99 per gallon. I know it stinks like gear oil but it works fine for what I do.

For thick oil In the summer I like husqvarna.

I just wait for the TSC stuff to go on sale and grab a gallon or 2.
I really need to get a gallon of the winter grade......I recently tried refilling the saw with oil and darn near had to use a spoon to do it.

I use the tall timber brand. It's cheap, but as far as I can tell it seems to work ok.

When it gets really cold out, I bring the oil inside to keep it from getting too thick.
At least I can get sawing quickly on a cold morning!

I had a friend that made his own mix from motor oil and STP oil treatment.
I'm pretty sure he didn't save any money :loco:

What makes it winter grade? Is it a lighter weight?

The snowflake on the bottle? (Sorry I couldn't resist.)

This doesn't happen, I presume its a lighter weight. Kinda the difference of remembering to take the syrup out of the fridge before it is needed for the pancakes. Just flows better.

It's nice stuff. Before I switched to BioPlus I used it in winter as well. Couldn't tell you how they describe it on the label, but yes, it's a bit lighter and is also less susceptible to thickening in cold temps.

That said, keeping the saws/oil inside the night before a cutting session seemed to work pretty well with the thick husky oil.

Yep, that works well when you have that planned.
When you go out with someone else in mind, and end up wanting to cut instead, well, it still works but just flows slower.
Life happens a lot around here, and plans change.:coffee:

I use whatever winter weight is on sale. I'll pay a premium for premix, but not bar oil.
