Heres some stuff I just pulled from my boxes I'm gonna clean up and use in the near future. Lot's of good mixture here, Griswold, Wagner, BSR, Volwrath, etc…
Now that's patience Dave. I had started cleaning/seasoning a Wagner a while back and left it on the stove top. After using the oven a few times, the vapors from the oven got to the pan, and it started rusting again. I scrubbed it down, and re-applied some Crisco then stuck it in the oven while it was warming for some breadmaking. I'll need to do that a couple more times....I must have missed a spot on the underside.....to get a nice coating going. What's the first thing I should cook in it?
What he said! And let the bacon grease sit for a day or so, wipe it out and throw it in the oven, 350* for about half hr, let it cool… You should be good!
Thanks, Those two pans were a matching pair/"bought together" by the same person. Other than being "VERY" greasy and crusty, they are in remarkable shape and flat! Thats why the patience.
Nice!!! I think the #9 is the perfect size for nearly everything. When I'm cooking for myself, I have a BSR #7 I love! I only have one # 9. Take care of that puppy!
Have you ever used a lye bath? Works way better than oven cleaner. One pound of lye to five gallons of water. I commandeered one of my wife's covered totes, and it's sitting on the basement floor. This was clear just the other day. There's a pan in there right now. Lye is harder to find since Red Devil quit producing it. Apparently it is used in the production of some illicit drugs. Look at Ace Hardware for the Rooto brand drain opener, 100% sodium hydroxide.
I haven't done it but seen it, I know it works well. I have three dogs and God forbid they get into it. I have thought about it, just haven't went that route. I'm also not in a big hurry so I get to them whenever. I get the oven cleaner at our local Big lots store for $1.99 a can, the clerk always looks at me funny when I come to the counter with 8 cans , He must think I gotta "really big" oven… I only normally use 2 cans per pan.
I bet what the clerk is really thinking is he is glad it isn't him who needs 8 cans of oven cleaner. Cleaning ovens is a rotten job most of the time.
I hope they don't catch on to the $1.99 thing…. They are the only ones that sell it that cheap. The ACE hardware store is $3.29 for the same stuff.
