I thought I was going to replenish the stacks in the furnace room tonight but not if it's going to drop down to -13 like they're talking. There's enough in there to get me another week so it'll wait until the temps are back in the 30's later this week. Still burning elm and ash in both stoves 24x7. With the lack of wind the house has barely made it under 70 even during the overnight burns of 8 hours +. Might get this wood burning thing figured out yet...in this house.
They jacked up the realfeel temps today, -19 tonight..... Tuesday night is -11. I think yesterday it was - 30 & -40.
Looking like -23 tonight. Luckily little wind to add to that. Already -10. More Mulberry for the stove tonight.
The last time I looked it was 14, we'll drop pretty good during the night so we'll load some Beech in the Liberty and put the Pellet Stove on tonight.
Woke up to -15f. Both stoves have just the right coal bed to stir up, reload and let er' rip. Both getting a diet of hard maple, beech and red oak. 72 here in the house.
-9ยบ on the back porch. The boiler did very well last night with it's late night snack of large splits of Ash. I will feed it the same thing just before I go to work for the day.
Nice cool -21 @ 3am. All the way up to -10 now. Mixed some honey locust and honeysuckle in with the Mulberry last night. Had to laugh when I checked on another forum this morning. Taking my bride on her honeymoon in a couple weeks. Saved our pennies for 3 years after our wedding so we could take a Carribean cruise. One person on the cruise forum was complaining it might be cold when we leave Florida...50s or even....shudder the thought...upper 40s.
Odd. My thermometer was reading -9 this morning. When I got to work the radio said it was -18. Either way, it is cold. Keep it coming. Kill some bugs!
Forecast low of -10 last night turned into -16 when I finally got up at about 8 a.m. No idea how low it got, and no idea on "real feel". Kitchen was about 63 and the living room was 64.8, so I got the 30 crankin'. An hour later, we're at 69.3 in the living room and climbing, but that load is close to being toast. Good thing I turned on the DV last night or I probably would have had icicles hangin' from my nose this morning. Everyone's been fed but me, and they're all napping, except me (obviously, or I wouldn't be typing right now......or would I?). Anyway......"Baby, it's cold outside" ETA: Forgot to mention, I'm still burning Oak, and will be until late March or so.
25 outside w/ light snow, 69 in the house. Since ponderosa pine is all I have in my stack, that's what I'm burning!
I had -28f this morning but it has warmed up to zero with the sunrise and I can finally get the dogs out. This morning I'm burning some Maple and some Poplar. All scrounge wood.
Dat cold! We had a couple of those nights last year. BrrrrrrrKinda hoping for some this year as well though. Hopefully kill some bugs that we don't want around here.
We hit minus 16 this morning, had both the wood stove and the pellet stove going last night, 79 in the basement....69 in the living room and the sleeper was 68.
Not cold compared to the northern parts but I'd sure hate to spend good money on a warm vacation and have it in the upper 40's no doubt! I can remember going to see mom in California one winter. We deplaned onto the tarmack via stairs and I didn't put my jacket on thinking it was warm... Nope! It was a record setting 17 at the airport and water pipes were bursting all over the Sacramento area at that time!
It seems like when it's really cold and there is very little or no wind the temperature can varie widely in as little as ten miles. I think it's a valley or a bowl effect and we have it here in Winter, Wisconsin and its known to be cold here. I know in Minnesota it's always a town called Lakeville that's often times 15 degrees colder than the international airport is some 17 miles from there.
-7 last night, house was 63 after a 12hr burn,, stoked her up good with, the mix, ash, oak, and sugar, got the stove running hot, turned the blower on full blast and it warmed up pretty quick forecast says a low of minus 11 tonight
