Enough to do this when you don't use the decomp and it bites back...

Didn't realize it when it happened. It took me a few minutes to figure it out. It just made it that much meaner when I dropped it in the log. They can't stay pretty forever, I suppose.

Starting technique is everything. On high compression saws you need to roll it to TDC and then pull it like you mean it.

Oh trust me, I do. I have a habit of not using decomp on my saws and always tug the rope to the pulse before giving them a firm pull. This one just got the better of me today.

Me too. Apparently, they don't take well to being punched.

I was able to pop the pieces back out without breaking any off. I'm going to put some screen on the backside with some epoxy. Hopefully they'll stay in place then.

Hahah, no need for the massive handle. The saw caught and jumped into my hand - still holding the handle. Like I said, I didn't even know it happened right away. It took me a few minutes to figure out why my saw was like that! My hand is fine, I had good leather gloves on, can't even tell.

Glad you're ok. If that didn't hurt your hand, you are no sissy, sir.
Then again, that ain't no sissy saw.

I'd sure like to see how it turns out after you do the repair, if you don't mind.

Thanks for sharing. I've been there myself, I
only have 1 saw that has a decomp, and it's my smallest saw! My bigger ones are older, before the decomps were so common, so I've racked my knuckles more than once.

Usually when I do it there's at least 2 people watching,:Dnever fails.

As pointed out on the chainsaw forum truths thread (CSFT) ...only sissies use the Docomp valve (not sure of the wording or number):)

The extra comp makes em a little more sporty to pull over, but the timing advance is what "bites" ya..

    BAM!!

My MM 460 is impossible to start without decomp.. At least by my little, short, fat self.... :) That is my only saw I MUST use it on. The Solo 681 has a plugged decomp. But it's not as bad.

Glad your hand is o.k... Nice 440 :dex:

No problems here with my Mastermind 064 or 7900... but my 288 with the base gasket delete is a different story. Checked compression the other day and it's reading 183 psi. on my gauge. o_O

No complaining here, Clint. Just gotta learn to use decomp so it doesn't bite back. :saw:

This saw just 1.5 tanks after port work. This has a used 046 D cylinder and new Meteor piston. I'm at 900' above sea level. My MMWS 260 pulls 205psi.
