Catching the burp, and taking it off full choke is critical. If you have any more problems getting it started, don't hesitate to ask us questions.
Fox, I do -- my shop even suggested putting it in the "run" position. I keep thinking that it's bc I don't have any "real" upper body strength like a typical guy would. But the video seems to suggest that upper body strength isn't really a requirement. Woodchick
Welcome aboard. Chainsaws are all pretty much the same as far as starting but, it may help to know the make and model of your chainsaw, does it have a primer bulb?

Hello Woodchick, welcome to the club! You've obviously done your homework and have an amazing setup with the masonry heater (I'm very envious of that), we're glad to have you join our amazing family here! Lots of great members as sure you've already seen by lurking here. As for your saw, I'd be checking several things. May just need a tune up, or possibly the evil ethanol gas may have the carb in need of a rebuild, or maybe something else but I'm betting one of the members here can get ya through it. So my next question is, are we all supposed to come up there for wood-fired pizza when the Patriots play the Packers in the SuperBowl?? (yep that's my prediction) Lol......

I believe that there is no end to knowledge and this place helps all of us share the knowledge we have and in turn learn from others. I just finished reading a biography about Winston Churchill. Welcome to the land of BTU's. As others have said catching the burp is crucial. I will sometimes just give it 2 pulls on choke then switch to run and pull till it starts. Are you using the decompression valve? That will make it easier to pull.

I'll echo Scotty's thoughts on the saw. When I've had trouble starting mine, it usually comes back to the gas (once I've changed spark plug, cleaned air filter, and checked fuel line). If at all possible get the non-ethanol gas and a higher octane, and it shouldn't sit for more than about a month. Scotty Overkill, I hope your SB prediction is right!
+1 sometimes it's hard to tell whether the saw burped or not Oops I didn't see you posted your saw in your original post. So, does your saw have a decompression valve? Do you have a manual?
How fun would that be??!! I love having pizza parties. I usually assign guests to bring certain things -- i.e,. someone brings pesto, another brings sauteed onions, another the pepperoni, etc. etc., and then we make all kinds of crazy combos. Gonna check into non-ethanol gas -- for the chainsaw, not the pizza -- where does one buy this?
Stores here in Virginia advertise it, I pass 4 different gas stations that have a sign "Ethanol Free Gas Here" or something like that. Word is getting out more and more how inferior that gas is, especially for small engines. It'd probably be even worse for pizza!
Most stations near lakes/marinas/ etc have it. We also have PURE stations around here that sell all ethanol free gas. I think there's a site called puregas.org or something like that that will find stations near you
The street rod guys in your area usually know where premium non-ethanol gas is sold they like it for their hot rods. Usually, they have a website that gives locations.
