I know most of you guys are back east, I always like the pics of your GTG's! Thought you'd like to see ours out west here,

A few months ago I met another Colorado saw guy on AnotherSite, we have been texting, talking, etc, he knew of two other guys from Colorado & eastern Wyoming, that frequent the SH site.

So today we all got together near my house in northeast Colorado. We met at a wood pile I know of, with some big 36-48" wood.

    One guy brought, a 460, and 660. The other two guys brought a 576, 372, 395, 576.

I bought my stihl family. 261, 441, 661, 044. We had a great time, I think we did a little to much BS'ing but still got two cords of wood cut split and stacked on my trailer. Oh and I also bought my 28-ton DHT splitter to handle those big rounds.

Here are some pics of the event. Today was the 1st time I got to use the 661, she is a BEAST is about all I can tell you! All four of us were pretty amazed at how hard she pulls! Ran it with a 28' tsumura bar, and even buried in 40" plus Maple she just pulled like a train! :)

Today was about all 90cc saws, the 70cc saws hardly even got ran, and the 50cc just sat around and looked pretty :)

Here are some group shots, and the splits. We did not split the wood down to stove size, just easier to handle sizes to load on the trailer.

I think it's kinda funny that you guys are cutting that big bass turd up, and there's hardly a tree in the background   Maybe some a few miles away in the last pic.

bass turd or not you take what you can get out here! If you ever drove threw eastern CO, you'd know trees are FEW and FAR between here! About the only thing around here is Elm and Cottonwood, I dont like burning Cottonwood although I have, so anytime I find ANYTHING other then those two, I get excited!

Here is a pic of what MOST of eastern CO looks like threw a windshield!

Hey Maul! I am SE not too far from Cheyenne. How funny, I grew up in Boulder, wonder if that guy is my age? pm me his name if you can. Like the giant propane tank! We had two 500 gals here in the new digs but the lines were too dangerous to run, so its wood and pellet only now. It's barren around here too, same plains only higher altitude and very few trees in sight. I'd like to have joined in the fun today, but things change.....hubby got a bunch of pellet bags moved today though....

I didn't get their last names, :) yet. The guy from Boulder name is Bill that is all I know for now. They wanna come back in a month. I might have that pile cut up by then though. But I know of a few large Elm trees around here a farmer wants taken down we plan to go after. That pic was sent to me by the guy from Cheyenne this morning, he said where are the tress :) I think it was near Julesburg CO on I-80.

I dont know of any KS or NE members here, but if they see this and wanna come, I am sure I could find some more bass turds to cut up :)

Really, some people dont understand life out here on the plains! My neighbor who is older, and some others I've talked to since living here have told me about back in the day they would walk the prairie picking up buffalo chips and cattle pies to burn in the stove, as firewood was so scarce back then. I asked them man that must have stunk, yes it did he replied but we stayed warm!

Trees are not native to the plains, except around the river bottoms, and they are not many rivers here. Trees that were planted here, were done during the dust bowl days, as wind breaks. Now a lot of those wind break trees are dying off. We have it lucky here to have "some" firewood, now. I would not want to think of burning buffalo chips in my stove! :) End History lesson!

no clue, that guy above mentioned it, I think he thinks the wood we were cutting up here is junky wood.

Those back east boys are spoiled. I grew up in WI, lived in CO 15 years now, Oak is every where back there. You can walk out your door and cut it, my friend that lives in WI said his rule is he never goes more then 5 miles for firewood. Hell, I driven a hour to get firewood out here before! LOL then he came to visit me and understands why, when you LOOK around.

Nice to see some posts and pictures from the CO-WY area. We lived in Cheyenne when I took a great one-year contract job in 2000-01, which I grabbed because my wife (who had just given birth to our first child, our now oldest son) thought it would be exciting, and we would be able to easily visit family in the Denver area. It was, we had a great year, and really enjoyed living in WY. Picked my avatar because it reminds me of that year.

Yes, we are spoiled when it comes to wood here in CT.

I grew up in NJ, my wife in CT -- both of us have lived in CT all our adult lives, except for that one year in WY. We always find it amusing when folks from suburban CT or NJ talk about how we are running out of out room in this country, or take for granted plentiful and easy to access water and trees. Usually, the speakers have never taken a drive on Rt. 80 westbound or seen places like eastern CO or WY. They think we are making up stories when we describe what CO and WY look like as you drive north from Denver.

I was going to say, I have paid good money for bass wood for hubby to carve duck decoys!

Our last cut zone in colorado before we moved was 2 hours away (commanche peak wilderness). Gas/time/permit/& popped a tire on the logging road. And that was NW of Ft Collins! Not alot of love on this site for pine or other softwoods, though its kept us warm for a few decades. Honestly it blows my mind that many people back east cut wood on their property, and alot hardwoods to boot. Makes me envious LOL.

Burn whatever wood you can find to keep you warm friend!

No idea. It looks like Jeff T posted the phrase, and he is from MI.

maulhead, that 661 looks simply awesome. I see you have both a 044 and 441 -- which do you like better?

I cant answer that question for you, the 044 was there as a poser today only. I picked it up at a dealer last week, it runs but I think it needs a carb kit as it has sat for a few years. I just have not had the time to work on it. I only brought it so the other guys could look at it. So she was just posing today. I used to run a 044 about 12 years ago, but it's been so long I cant compare it to the 441. It will be fun to get it back into service and compare them. :)

Looks like he is describing the size of the wood with an expletive describing a fatherless child....... seems he's saying that is a big old piece of wood for having what appears to be no trees in the area.

Nice photos, looks like a great time !
