Well, yes that too - but I was thinking I might try to grab some of those Somersets. Never had the opportunity to burn them before. unbidden - Did they have a decent supply on hand? Don't want to drive 45 minutes over there only to find they are all gone. I have found that I don't always get the correct answer when I call the store and ask the employee that answers the phone
The girl at TSC told me they received a large shipment last week. I didn't quite catch how many ton she said they had and I din't walk their yard. She did say they are selling fast. Give them a call: (401) 826-2510
Called Coventry TSC last night around 7:30 and asked if they had any Somersets left, and if so is there enough to warrant me taking the trip out there this morning. Oh yes we have many tons, she says. I drive over there this morning (nice country drive, by the way) and there is a pallet with 2 bags on it. I go pay for 15 bags and the clerk pages the forklift operator to bring another ton. The forklift operator goes out, comes back and says there are no more Somersets. Now I'm very frustrated because it was a pretty long drive, and the only other pellets they had were Instant Heats, Big Heats, and North Americans. The clerk says let me go out in the yard and look. I went out there with her, and we discover one last ton, sitting under a ton of Instant Heats. I got the 15 bags, so very happy now. First bag going in today, should have an idea how they perform later on tonight. unbidden - thanks a lot for the tip, I've been wanting to try these for the longest time.
OK, preliminary results are in. These Somersets are to my stove what spinach is to Popeye. Feed rate 3.5, stove temp 500 degrees. Needless to say, I now understand why everyone loves them so much! Feeling a subtle urge to pick up more. Gotta tell you guys, I'm having a lot of fun testing all these different brands. The hardwoods I have picked up at the boxes this year are really blowing me away!
I can confirm that the Coventry RI TSC is out of Sets. Was there this morning for a few other items (ok, that's a lie ) , but I did score some nice scissors and cat litter Good thing I grabbed a ton earlier in the week. * ttdberg, glad you got there in time to try them out.
broke open a new ton over the weekend, very ashy in comparison to others. I have noticed this over the years. must depend on what type of wood the mill is running. Heat is still good though.
ironpony - what year are those Sets? I'm burning some of last years variety, and they're really ashy. I've really noticed ash before in my multifuel stove, but last years Sets have me cleaning all the time.
not sure of year, they were all bought together beginning of this year. However I just got into the next skid and they are extremely ashy, fill the burn pot in about 4 hours, whereas it used to not fill up at all. 1 week and the ash pan is FULL, used to burn 2 weeks with less than 1/2 that. Hopefully it is not to many bags, getting old cleaning ash out of the burn pot. it is also like a large very coarse ash. noticed the pellets seem soft too, maybe not enough pressure during production.
I'm burning Sets that I purchased 2 weeks ago; if running my Harman at "3", the pot stays clear, if ramping up to 4+, 5 I do get a bit of "coarse ash". Overall I'm very happy with these pellets.
I've been running mine steadily at 3.5 and I can't complain about the ash. In fact, I'm quite pleased. These pellets remind me of Greenways and also the AWF Hardwoods.
