    Ha!

Is that orange construction fence for snow drifts? If so, how do you place in regards to the wind direction? Or is there another strategy to placing snow fences?

Yes it is. I usta put up over 600 feet of it at our old place but I just need a small amount now since our lane isn't a half mile long here any more.
Just try to get the snow to drift were you want it to instead of were the wind wants it to. Works some times, some times not. It use to be hard to judge the snow and wind at our old home but I did what I could. The hooch is back in the back round and I was just getting the mail that day in this pic.

Now that we have moved and have a much shorter lane I aint so sure I am better off. Wind seems to collect snow and the county maintainer sometimes leaves me a mess like this from last year.

If you find a minute, please tell me what you consider in how to place your snowfence? We obviously need one... DSCF1338.JPG

I'd say so...It looks like the wind that came with that snow came across from left to right in the picture?

Believe or not, most of the wind was from right to left in the pic.

We'd like to remove the fence to the right. Put up 4" x 2" cattle fence (contain our dogs) on the existing posts. I don't mind what I see, but the neighbors like that their many, many vehicles are screened from our fence and mentioned they actually have less drifts since the previous owner put the fence up :picard:.

Does a snow fence come after the the drift in hopes of attracting it over there? Like on the far left of this pic?

I dont care for the sheds either. They are not useful, need alot of work and block my view of the mountains. My view is important as I am home 24/7.

I wouldn't change a thing iffn it was me. That sunset and the view would be enough to satisfy my wanderlust that I used to have. Might not be the answer you were looking for but embrace the moment.
Sit back and look out the winder and imagine what it was like for some old timer that was first starting to ranch up there in the late 1800's. Think about his thoughts on how great it was to have all that country to fulfill his dreams of making a better life for him self and his kin. To maybe start a new beginning from a life that was long past and maybe a failed venture.
Sorry, I got side tracked in my own thoughts there for a moment. Put your snow fence where ever the prevailing winds blow from the most and put them back far enough that they don't drift on to the place you don't want them to. That wooden fence to the right is already acting as a snow fence and so are the tall grasses in the right front of the pic. Pretty clear huh? LOL. Just gotta figure out where you want the snow and where you don't. And then the wind will change and the whole theory goes up in smoke. Last time I was in your neck of the woods was in the mid 80's on a 1%er deal and was mostly on 25 outta Cheyenne up to the north. Big wooden snow fence all along the black top where the wind really blew and that was in July.
Just look at those foot prints in the snow. Who made them?
