S&W, at least you were able to alleviate the issue.
Standing next to the stove last night, I felt cold air so immediately looked at the front door.
Closed.....so I followed the cold. It was coming from most awesome windows in the world that happen to be in the stove room.
Aluminum framed sliders that leak, condense, freeze, then drip onto the sills and into the walls.
They are the sole reason my stoveroom isn't done yet. I knew they were bad, but didn't realize how bad until I opened the walls.
At least the stove is getting plenty of fresh air.

I was out in the garage yesterday and realized the door into the laundry room has a huge gap.:headbang: On a side note about air I have an air conditioning return that was abandoned when we got the new system. It goes up to the attic. Noticed cold air coming in. Guess I should plug that up? Or do you guys think this might help push hot air up?

I seal up any and everything. Air leaving the house means more UN heated air has to enter the house. I can't think of any good reason to allow air to escape.

It's actually unheated air from the attic but I get what your saying. Thanks man. Will probably get up in the attic this weekend and button up a few things up there and outside too.

I pulled up drop ceiling in my basement around the foundation. I can see dirty insulation where the wall and floor joist meet. A can of spray foam took care of that. I'm hoping it restricts mice movement as well.

Must have been fiberglass batting pieces? All that seems to do is act like an air filter!

Yep I'm not impressed at all with fiberglass Batts. I'm more of a roxul and cellulose kind of a guy.

Does your basement door get used in the winter at all?

No. I only used the basement to store the kayak. I hate going down there. The wind blows pretty wicked here. I am on the edge of the lake plains with flatter, rolling hills. Sometimes an outside fire is impossible out back.

I'd find a way to keep that sucker closed tight, bad enough the wind at grade is looking for a way in. Brrrr

I have a gap under one door where a sweep fell off. I can't get down there to put the new one on. So for now, I put a towel down and kick it tight up against the door. I will ask one of the boys to take care of it if I can get them to staylonger than a minute.
Drafts are so bad. You can use a candle to find them.

I hate drafts. I'm going to devote some time and $ to get rid of more of those. I've made some good strides with new windows this year, and a new patio slider 2 years ago but there's more to do. I'll start with my entry door to the garage, using a different weather seal, and some more insulation at the top of the basement exterior walls. There's just batting in there, and it's drafty.

Since we're all in a confessing mood, first year we moved into our house the main living area was always cold and felt drafty, figured it was because it had high ceilings, turns out I had the fly damper wide open on the see through fireplace in the middle of the area, I didn't discover that until the end of winter :emb:
