I have had tile for a few decades and its no fun to clean. The other consideration is this a depressed neighborhood, so I have been looking at the fiberglass surrounds. They look easier to clean.

I ended up with a great deal on a heated jet tub, but its larger than the standard surround kits online, its 41 x 72.

I thought I remembered as a kid you could buy the panels and trim to fit, I don't see this option now. I found a 42 x 72 kit at Home Depot, $160 + $60 shipping.

Any other ideas? With materials from a hardware store here instead of shipping in a kit from one of the big box stores?

    Thanks

You can get laminate panels (like the fiberglas tub surrounds) that can be cut to fit and installed to keep that area waterproof. These would be a box store item, not sure a local hardware store would carry this stuff.

FRP: fiberglass reinforced panel would work. Usually sold in 4x8 sheets. Might be special order at your local lumberyard. They make corner and edge connectors to waterproof the joints.

Thank You! that was the keyword to find what I had in mind :) Those sheets would cost a bit less than the kit, but I am partial to the gloss finish in the kit.

Thats what I had in mind. Exactly the stuff I remember but I can't scrub walls w texture anymore. I was hoping it came smooth as well as textured but I cannot locate it. I ordered the "kit" with the gloss walls 2 weeks ago, still waiting on delivery....

I'm with WW,I hate cleaning the tub/shower.When I built my upstairs I put in a smooth 1 piece tub shower unit.I use a water saver shower head(not a cheap one) and never use bar soap, have a hand held sprayer ted into the head, and spray off curtain and shower before I get out.Used to use the liquid shower "no scrub" spray but costs too much.

We have 4x4 ceramic tile and they not the grout never look dirty to me.
The (porcelain steel)tub and the goop between the tub and tile wall can get grimey.
We have soft scrub and maybe something else. I use baking soda when I do it.
I figure the box in the fridge should get replaced sometime anyway so why not use some of it.
When someone else does it I say nothing.

How would you cut the hole for the regulator? He has a hole bit for door knobs but the regulator is much larger. Need a bigger saw bit or would you risk a utility knife?

There is a hole saw for that size.

I would say 2-1/8" since it's a common size hole saw.

Thanks! Honestly that entire kit is reasonable considering the only source here are local hardware stores where a single hole saw might not be cheaper! Done, should be here Wed, maybe he can get back to the project next weekend :)

I liked the other kit with the 5" hole saw but like you said, I like the idea of a well known name. Thanks again sam :)

It's far from done... I am desperate to get out of the old gross bathroom (remodel this summer so its still gross at the moment). Loving Dear Husband atleast got it ready to bath in there

    :rootintootin::banana::rootintootin:

I need to order shower curtains for me. But tonight the lil one is enjoying a long bath with 12" high suds from a bubble bath with jets. AWESOME.
