An ad came up this afternoon a few towns from me for a large assortment of NOS Stihl parts, so I ran down and took a look. It was a family power equipment dealer and this was apparently a load of inventory from years and years ago. I couldn't believe it when I started to go through the boxes. Big stuff = crankcases, recoils, cranks, mufflers, clutch covers, some big dawgs, and on and on and on. Crazy number of sprockets - mainly spur with some rim (including an NOS 090 spur sprocket) - must be at least 50-75 sprockets of varying size alone. Tons of flags, with about 4 full brake assemblies. Found was appears to be an NOS 056 piston, NOS Walbro WA-14 carb, Coils, clutches, cylinders from trimmers, literally hundreds and hundreds of individuals parts like oil pumps, av buffers, oil gears, tons of air filters, fuel lines, impulse lines, throttle linkages, tons of gaskets (base, carb, muffler), essentially any part you would likely look for from essentially 030-032, 038, 042, 048, 056 mainly - but I just started to look through and I need to organize - might be other stuff too. Luckily, nearly every item is labeled with IPL numbers. All the small envelopes are loaded with repeats of the same parts - it is absolutely nuts. Here are some pics - I need to go play some more! If anyone is looking for any parts, let me know (you can even send the IPL!) - I'll be organizing all this stuff to move on the bay eventually, but would rather see it go to good guys here - then I'll post to some other forums, then finally to the bay. Anyone want to offer an estimate of what you think this entire lot might be worth? I really don't know, but I'm guessing I'll be a lot closer to a brandy new saw! Cheers!

Yep, organization is key - I've parted out a lot of saws, but on a buy a one saw, part it out basis - this will be a little crazy! Cheers!

Not sure - if so, it's the small parts I would think. Will take some time to organize! Cheers!

Well, just counted the small bags of parts - comes to 122 bags, so at least 122 different parts there. Most are in multiple - e.g. 8 av mount, 12 throttle linkages, 10 oil gears, etc., etc. Must be way over 500 parts and that's probably way underestimating it. These smalls are overwhelming - I think I might just try a parts lot auction on the bay and focus attention on the larger items for individual sale - too much time to try to organize, photo, describe, etc. Although, I could also try taking one part from each bag for each saw generation and sell as mini-lots - that might be doable too - but, that also sounds overwhelming - I do have a real job! Cheers!

Try to move the big stuff first. You'll get more $ out of it and learn the best way to do it. Gives you time to think about the smaller items which you aren't going to get a lot of $ out of (compared to the other stuff) anyway.

Figure out how much money you want to net for the whole lot and price accordingly. If you can make a overall net profit that you'd be happy with on the larger items, then it might be worth your while to unload the smaller stuff in large lots closer to cost and not have to hassle with filling a bazillion small orders. Your time is worth something.

That might work - was thinking about just unloading the smalls as a lot first, see what I get, then price out the big items accordingly. I've sold lots of parts on the bay over the past few years, so I have a good feel for what I can expect for the bigger items - it's the time for the smalls that I don't think is worth taking - here is a few shots of what even a handful of the 122 bags has - crazy.
