I gave up on trying to heat my living room, it's on the west side of the house with 3 outside walls and terrible insulation. As long as it's in the teens I can leave the french doors open but when it's single digits for the highs it gets tough to keep the place warm. Closing the doors knocks roughly 300 sq' off a little less than 2K.

We hit - 20, just loaded up the Liberty with Beech and Sugar Maple and the pellet stove is running in the opposite corner.

The basement is still 80, the living room is holding at 70 and the sleeper dropped a degree to 67 when I was burning down the Beech coals.

Brrrr.. Minus five here. Wind chill supposed to be around minus twenty. Mid 70s in the upstairs l.r. (where the insert is.) Down in the low 60s in the b.r. just the way I like it. Slab wood and elm in the princess.

I was having fun coming home tonight. It was cold enough that if I ran the heater on high, the engine couldn't maintain full operating temp. Now that's cold!

1 big round shagbark,1 medium mulberry split,1 medium bur oak round for the night.Should still be a few handfuls of coals at 5 when I wake up. 74 in here now, will drop down to 68-70.

Just got done loading and charring over both stoves with loads of elm and an older oak split way in the back of the Answer for good measure. They're both shutdown and set for an extended burn. I'll be back up in 5 hours to check and top them off. I like to leave the Answer set a little more open after my early morning loading that way it helps burn the coals down and it's warmer when the rest of the house wakes up. The wind all but died but it's a crispy -11f out right now with 76 showing in the basement and 71 in the living room. I came in after feeding a bale and remarked to swmbo that it didn't feel that horrible outside. She thought I was nuts but it really wasn't, without the wind trying to blow in/down every crack and crevice of a guys clothing!

2am reload. 65 in the stove room. When I get back to sleep, I'll be dreaming of a BK Ashford.

It is -15 on the back porch this morning. They say a real feel of -30 from the wind. Ash cooking in the boiler. The system did well last night. 7-1/2 hours and still a real thick 7-8" bed of bright red coals when I reloaded while it was running. Most schools are delayed two hours. I think they will have a hard time starting the buses. They are outside in the wind.

Didnt get back on the pute after the reload as the ironwood had me in the 'Danger Zone' for 10 minutes and i was kinda busy dealing with it. :wacky:Even with it shut down completly....

Note to self... Do not lay dry dry ironwood on a 3/4 full stove.

Rottiman, Really sorry about the pipes. That's a bummer. Hope they are OK. Our low was early this morning. I see it was a record for this day.

Our low was at 4-5 AM, -19 F actual temp, 100% humidity. Loon, the dog woke me then. He was barking on and off all night at the unusual noises. However, at 5 the barking became sustained and a bit urgent. -19, 100 % humidity out. He just knew something wasn't right with the world. It was cold! We were out for a few minutes. Snowing too. Humidity at 100 % for three hours, down to 86% now, with significant drop in the windchill. Doesn't look like a nice week coming up. For that matter, we are forecast to be 10 to 15 degrees below normal highs and lows much of the coming month.
