Speaking of sugar maple, I got in to a spot in my pile that had quite bit of good sugar maple. Had several pieces in last night and through the day today......I'm a wikein' it....yeth thir.
We had trouble last night keeping the bedroom (furthest from stove at the end of the house) above 61°F despite having a small fan on the floor pushing out the cold air. I ended up adding more splits around 2am to give a bit of a heat boost. I expect the same tonight. The kitchen, dining room, stoveroom/living room, Matt's room, and the hallway stayed at 64°- more than comfortable for sleeping.
At the ole farm, I was waking up with a headache and discovered the wall behind my head was around 45 degrees some winter nights. Started wearing a wool hat. Did the trick. 4 years of that... finally could do some changes. New windows, insulation & furnace. No more curtains moving when it was blowing outside anymore...
Believe it or not, we enjoy winter camping (yea in a tent, no heat except from a candle lantern and an open fire outside. I remember the one time my buddy and I went camping. Temps were supposed to be around 5 above. Well my sleeping bag was rated for zero, and I had a thick thermarest under me, but it got down to about 5 below. I'm somewhat of a survivalist, but that night I was cold.
I did that a couple times. Coldest it got inside was 15. -20 outside. Plenty cold enough. My ole bod would not like that now.
It was colder last night but we stayed warmer, maybe from the fresh snow insulating the roof more. Tonight should be interesting. Low of 6 with 35-45mph winds with a real feel of -20.
10F with a 20mph breeze outside our door right now. 78F on the inside. I just got home from plowing snow. Sure is toasty in here. To be fair though, I did have to fire up the little box stove in the back room. The FPI insert won't be able to keep up all night.
