IMO, if you're running the stove pretty much all the time, I say YES!

Where do you bang the rubber mallet? Inside the stove on back wall? The dislodged ash is in the stove or inside the walls?

Yep, and always good to have extra exhaust fan gaskets on hand. A clean stove is a happy stove. Get a small wire brush to clean the gunk off the fan impellor that is attached to the exhaust fan, that can slow down flow more than you'd think. Also clean all the exhaust passage ways. If you're stove is 20% clogged with ash and grime, you are only getting 80% of your moneys worth on your pellets. That's how I explain it to my customers.

Rubber mallet may not cut it. I used a "dead blow" mallet or a small steel hammer. And yes, use them on the BARE steel back firebox wall. Any decorative brick must be removed beforehand, and ANY stove with a cast back wall is OFF LIMITS.

The dislodged ash will most likely fall into the interior ash traps of the stove. Any of that that you can't get to manually with a vacuum or brush should get removed by the LBT......that is why I call it the "final touch".

I see that. From what they're forecasting, though, I think it will be no contest by morning and unfortunately I think I'll be on the winning team.:(

1.5 tons burned was always my limit......no matter how cold it was outside.

I love mine too. The only thing that would ever replace my pellet stove would be a long burning catalytic wood stove but... they are also a lot of work.

No worse than new brakes, tires, and oil changes on trucks.
