That is interesting. I think someone had test burned this type of coal/wood pellet before. They are listing it as "post consumer biomass" and coal. If that biomass is going to consist of napkins, paper towels, etc., I have no idea how they would keep that ash level in the "Premium" PFI rating. That being said, I would love to try a bag!

This sounds like a great idea. My guess is the ash level would be fairly high, but I believe a lot of pellet stoves can burn pellets up to 3% ash. If these were cheap enough it may be with the higher ash.

Yeah, stoves that have large ash pans wouldn't have a problem with that. This might be the one time where you might be happy to get a "bag" of coal for Xmas...lol

Wonder how the pellet will be 1/3 cheaper than wood pellets with anthracite at $300/ton.
Maybe 10% or less coal content ... ???

I'm not sure if coal is quite that expensive here being kind-of sort-of in/near the coal region. I think it might be in the $220-$240 ton????? Still would have to be cheap to offset the ash that I would assume it would leave behind.

Anthracite coal about 25 mil btu per ton
    Wood Pellets about 16 mil

So 50% more btu per ton.

I would deal with cleaning everyday and leaf blowing twice as much for maybe $180 a ton???

They already sell pellets made from "recycled stuff" but do not actually say what is in them.We need someone in Conn. to try them. The hotter slower burn of anthracite could be a problem with stove adjustments and burn pot life. Will be interesting.

Wonder what it would do to a stove's warranty?

I'm assuming because ash content of coal is very high. With the numbers(from the engineers handbook) below showing up to 20% for the coal portion of the mix.

Most will be destined for the industrial biomass market. This tidbit is from the article,

I would expect a pellet stove formula to contain far less coal for the stoves to handle it. I bet we hear lots of complaints from burners that don't understand that these pellet could contain up to 3 times the ash from a premium grade pellet. Heck we hear sad tales from pellets that make the premium grade of <1%

Norwhich ct, pretty close to the casinos. Was there a mill in Uncasville or was that some shady biz address?

I'm thinking that any venture that relies on so many government incentives isn't ready for prime time. If the chance of making a profit was high I would think they could fund this venture with private dollars rather than public money. Think Solindra and Fiskar…

That said my little butt was kept warm for many years with good pennsylvania antracite coal… good stuff.
