Oh yes it does, and I'm here to tell you it is nasty stuff. But, I will also say I have it it worse, so the shot helps some. One of the best things you can do is not spread it around.
I was offered antibiotics because of my age and other issues. I declined them because the side effects of the antibiotics would only compound my misery. Antibiotics don't help viruses, but could help if a bacterial infection set in because the patient is ill and run down.
I am taking a steroid and an inhaler because of acute bronchitis.

Artic air round one here now, tomorrow pm, round two but even colder. Have to keep a close watch on the pets to make sure their feet don't get frost bitten. My cats don't go outside.

Could get to -15 F and wind chills to -30 F, not fit for being outside without plenty of layers on and skin protection.

Do you have any heat in the chicken coups? I can remember gathering frozen eggs. Never lost a bird to the cold. I kept lamp with a reflecter on for them, and I kept a water heater going. I was using one end of a storage building. Their area was up off the floor so no bending over to take care of the coup.

Progress is going faster and faster with retirement. At the moment the furnace air filter is semi-blocked. Had a good look at the heat exchanger of the dino furnace, looks good and clean.

All the birds are in one coop, the one with the water heater, that coop is double walled they tend to huddle in the nest boxes which are insulated. It has been a lot colder than this and the birds have done well, if I lose a bird it is usually due to egg laying issues. The black australorps (2013 spring birds) are however in their first heavy molt. The black jersey giant (spring 2009 bird) has finished her molt and should go back into laying shortly, my Gold Comet (spring 2010 bird) is close behind the giant. The comet always greets me when I go out to tend them, the giant is a real laid back bird (a good thing as she is a big bird), the australorps are as dumb as chickens.

I would have though some others would say something as well subsailor.

If you keep chickens you soon come to the conclusion that some are smart, some are social, some are flighty, some are laid back, however some are really dumb clucks and those australorps I have define dumb.
