this guy has it going on and sure knows how to split some oak.

skip to 5:15 to see the mega out-of-the-park-splitting machine.

No kidding, there's no way I'm picking up a round like that just to weigh it, I like my back.

Pretty strange method. Seems like there's lots of videos where people make processing firewood even harder than it already is

Back in my younger days when I was surveying, I would drive 4"steel property bars into the ground with a 16 lb sledge hammer and I would do it with a continuous windmill swing. I'm pretty sure my technique looked a hell of a lot better than this guys....or at least I'm hoping

I wish I could still do that but considering I sprained my shoulder last night coaching hockey, and I'm 20 years older, I think those days are well behind me now :BrianK: ;)

So is that the cut, split and burn method. Way to wear yourself out.

Truly bizarre swing. Not such a great idea slipping around on ice, either.
Seen the one on YouTube who backs up & runs at the round with a maul? Darwin's List stuff.
Maybe if he'd put an edge on that maul. C'mon, that many swings in frozen red oak?
Degree-of-difficult does not earn you points in wood splitting.

I know a friend who does the full circle swing like that. Not me. If too difficult, log splitter time.

I feel tried just watching him waste his energy
And who stands on ice while splitting wood that's just asking to get hurt

What you see there is someone who will have sciatica by age 40 and who will get diagnosed with a herniated disk soon after that.

Yea when I was 23 I worked for the rail road swinging a spike maul all day on tracks.
But I am 64 now and when older you do not work harder but work smarter.
I bought a splitter. Problem solved.
